Weed dynamics as affected by practices and straw mulches in chickpea

open access: yesInternational Journal of Chemical Studies, 2020
A two year field experiment entitled “Effect of weed control practices alone and in combination with crop mulch on weed dynamics, yield and economics of chickpea” was conducted at Live Stock Farm, Department of Agronomy, Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Jabalpur during Rabi 2018-2019 and 2019-2020.

Genotype, mulching, and cropping system interactions drive vegetative growth and storage root yield in temperate‐grown sweetpotato

open access: yesCrop Science, Volume 66, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
Abstract Understanding interactions among genotype, environment, and management is crucial for optimizing crop performance under climate variability. Sweetpotato (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.), a nutrient‐rich root crop increasingly cultivated in temperate regions, exhibits complex source‐sink dynamics that remain insufficiently characterized in organic ...

Studies on Soil Moisture Preservative Effect of Straw-Mulching

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Meteorology, 1964
The effect of straw mulching on the water content in a surface soil layer was studied on the basis of the field measurement of soil moisture content. A plot with no straw and six plots covered by the wheat straw with the rate of 0.5, 1, 3, 6, 9 and 18kg/3.3m2 respectively, were prepared to clarify the effect of the straw mulching.

Rhizobia Inoculation Enhances Soybean Productivity Through Optimization of Root and Leaf Traits in the Huang‐Huai‐Hai Plain

open access: yesFood and Energy Security, Volume 15, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
Rhizobia inoculation enhances soybean yield by optimizing root morphology and leaf SPAD, while alleviating the inhibitory effects of nitrogen on nodulation and nitrogenase activity. These physiological improvements promote greater biomass accumulation and seeds per plant, ultimately resulting in significantly higher productivity and profitability ...

Polyhydroxyalkanoates as Sustainable Agricultural Plastics: Processing Strategies, Performance, and Environmental Perspectives

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 311, Issue 5, May 2026.
This review highlights polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) as biodegradable materials for agricultural plastics. It outlines how composition, processing, and formulation strategies shape material properties and end‐of‐life behavior. Applications in films and foams are discussed alongside current limitations in cost and scalability, emphasizing emerging ...

Optimizing soil hydrothermal status improves potato photosynthetic capacity and yield under mulching practices in rainfed areas

open access: yesJournal of Agriculture and Food Research
Extensive use of polyethylene plastic mulch (PM) boosts crop productivity in rainfed Northwest China but causes severe soil pollution. Consequently, biodegradable plastic mulch (DM) and straw mulching (full-coverage, CM; strip, SM) have emerged as eco ...

Soil physical quality index under long‐term organic no‐tillage management in central Ohio

open access: yesSoil Science Society of America Journal, Volume 90, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
Abstract Understanding how long‐term organic inputs and no‐tillage (NT) management influence soil physical quality (SPQ) is essential for sustainable agriculture. This study assessed the impacts of compost, manure, and cover cropping on the soil physical quality index (SPQi) after 27 years of NT management under a long‐term cropping system in central ...

Evaluating the impact of long‐term tillage practices on crop yield, soil properties, and greenhouse gas emissions in western Nebraska

open access: yesSoil Science Society of America Journal, Volume 90, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
Abstract Tillage prepares soil for planting and plays a critical role in crop productivity, soil health, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Assessing long‐term tillage is vital for expanding knowledge of these practices in semiarid environments. The experiment was conducted on the tillage plot initiated in 2007 to assess the long‐term effects of no ...
