Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Stray Current Corrosion Due to Utility Cathodic Protection [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The conditions in which stray currents contribute to the corrosion damage of highway structures, the tests to determine if these conditions exist, and the methods recommended to alleviate either the conditions or the damage caused by stray current ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Effects of Stray Current on Chloride Ingress in Underground Reinforced Concrete Structures

open access: yesBuildings
The proliferation of electrified rail systems has intensified stray current effects on chloride-induced corrosion in underground reinforced concrete (RC) structures, yet coupled mechanisms of stray current and chloride ingress—particularly in cracked ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Design and evaluation of SiC multichip power module with low and symmetrical inductance

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
Compared to silicon devices, silicon carbide (SiC) devices have much lower C(oss) and Q(g); they can switch at much higher speed, SiC power modules are thus more sensitive to stray parameters.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Effects of DC stray current on concrete permeability

open access: yes, 2016
In the present study, the effects of direct current (DC) stray current on concrete structures were studied with the focus on the effect of concrete rather than corrosion of steel bars.
