Gathering Energy of the Stray Currents in Electrified Railways Environment for Power Supply
The paper presents a new, unconventional energy harvesting (EH) method for supplying low-power devices on electrified railway lines that utilises stray currents and the non-zero potential of the rails to the ground.

Measurement and Evaluation of the Stray Currents from the DC Electric Traction Systems
2020 ELEKTRO, 2020The formation of stray currents is very closely related to the operation of the electrified railway and city lines. These ground currents may cause an electrochemical corrosion of the storage devices.

With the coupling of the DC metro network and urban power grid, the DC metro stray currents flowing into transformers have caused serious DC bias. There is, therefore, a need to evaluate transformer neutral direct currents caused by the DC metro stray ...

The stray currents are the fraction of traction return current returning by earth in at grade configurations, or by metallic structures (reinforcement bars) in case of viaducts and tunnels. These currents expose steel reinforcement bars to corrosion. The

All corrosion is the result of an electrochemical reaction; it involves both electrical and chemical events. For electrochemical corrosion to occur there must be a potential difference between two points that are electrically connected and immersed in an electrolyte.

Parametric Stray Current Monitoring and Mitigation for Electric Rail Stray Current
CORROSION 2005, 2005Abstract Built in several stages over 20 years, the electric rail system in Portland, Oregon is varied in construction design and materials and presents a range of stray current conditions. The rail system is proximate to water supply mains, distribution mains, and services also constructed with varied materials and methods.
