Purpose The University of Kansas (KU) libraries has faced increased requests for streaming video in the past five years. While we have provided access to many databases of films, feature films remained a problem. To write a collection development policy, the library undertook three investigations to ensure the outcome reflected the needs of the ...

Auditory segregation: Stream or streams?
Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1975When auditory material segregates into "streams," is the unattended stream actually organized as an entity? An affirmative answer is suggested by the observation that the organizational structure of the unattended material interacts with the structure of material to which the subject is trying to attend.

Multi-pitch streaming of interwoven streams
2017 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2017In this paper, we discuss the multipitch streaming (MPS) problem for a multi-source audio signal having interweaving pitch contours. We propose two approaches to tackle this challenge, one relates to a feature extracted from the energy levels distributed in multi-channel recordings for better characterization of the source, and the other uses particle ...

We present Stream WatDiv -- an open-source benchmark for streaming RDF data management systems. The proposed benchmark extends the existing WatDiv benchmark, and includes a streaming data generator, a query generator that can produce a diverse set of SPARQL queries, and a testbed to monitor correctness and latency.

Abstract The functional architecture of the dorsal and ventral streams is reviewed. Evidence is presented from neurological patients, brain imaging (particular functional MRI), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and other studies using the modern techniques available in cognitive neuroscience.

Stream Fusion, a popular deforestation technique in the Haskell community, cannot fuse the concatMap combinator. This is a serious limitation, as concatMap represents computations on nested streams. The original implementation of Stream Fusion used the Glasgow Haskell Compiler's user-directed rewriting system. A transformation which allows the compiler

One of the most important innovations of social networking websites is the notion of a "feed", a sequence of news items presented to the user as a stream that expands as the user scrolls down. The common method for monetizing such streams is to insert ads in between news items.

Streaming Queries over Streaming Data
2002Recent work on querying data streams has focused on systems where newly arriving data is processed and continuously streamed to the user in real-time. In many emerging applications, however, ad hoc queries and/or intermittent connectivity also require the processing of data that arrives prior to query submission or during a period of disconnection. For
