Streaming Potential Across Nafion Membranes

Berichte der Bunsengesellschaft für physikalische Chemie, 1989
AbstractMembranes / Nonequilibrium Phenomena / Streaming Potential / Thermodynamics / Transport PropertiesThe streaming potential Δϕ which arises between the uni‐univalent electrolyte solutions of the same concentration separated by nafion 125 membrane in the presence of a pressure difference ΔPapplied across the membrane has been studied.

Streaming Potentials in a Biological Membrane

Nature, 1964
STREAMING potentials, the converse of electro-osmosis and one of the four classical electrokinetic phenomena, are the electrical potential differences frequently observed across charged artificial membranes through which water is being forced. They arise from the fact that if the membrane matrix bears, say, negative fixed charges, the aqueous channels ...

Streaming potential—a general affinity sensor

Biosensors, 1986
Electrokinetic phenomena, such as streaming potential or streaming current, have so far been used for studies of unspecific adsorption of ionic compounds on various materials. This paper shows that streaming potential measurements can also be used for studies of biospecific interactions. Several different interactions were studied, e.g.

Streaming potential of intact wet bone

Journal of Biomechanics, 1990
The conversion of mechanical loads to bioelectrical signals in bone have been suggested to control repair and remodeling. These signals in wet bone are attributed to the electrokinetic behavior where mechanical forces cause electrical signals due to motion of an ion carrying extracellular fluid in the bone matrix (streaming potentials).

Streaming potentials in chemically modified bone

Journal of Orthopaedic Research, 1988
AbstractDirect streaming experiments with no significant mechanical deformation have been performed to determine the constituent or constituents of bovine tibia mainly responsible for the production of streaming potentials. Following the approach of Frank and Grodzinsky (5), selective removal of either main constituent—collagen or hydroxyapatite—of the

Streaming current and streaming potential on structured surfaces

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1986
Abstract An account is given in this paper of the electrokinetic theory of surfaces covered with charged layers. Streaming current measurement is shown to be equivalent to electrophoretic mobility measurement. A new model is introduced for the distribution of fixed charges inside a surface layer.

Apparatus for determination of zeta potentials from streaming potentials

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1963
A system was developed to measure the streaming potential generated between the ends of a capillary by the flow of a fluid through the capillary. Zeta potential can be calculated from the streaming potential. Adequate sensitivity and reproducibility were achieved by making special electrodes: silver wires plated in KCl solution and embedded in agar ...

Variance of streaming potential measurements

Journal of Membrane Science, 1999
We evaluated sources of variance in the measurement of the surface streaming potential of flat sheet specimens of cellulose di/triacetate membranes with a commercial electrokinetic analyzer. Two measurement methods were evaluated: the instrument's standard operating procedure, which continuously ramps the flow past the specimen, and a modified ...

Streaming Potentials During Hyperfiltration

1971
The theoretical and experimental studies of hyperfiltration of electrolytes through charged membranes indicate the important role of the potentials developed across the membranes. These potentials were measured directly with a pair of reversible electrodes under conditions of stationary hyperfiltration.

Streaming potential near a hydrofracture

Doklady Earth Sciences, 2016
We suggest a mathematical model for the dynamics of the streaming potential near a hydrofracture of a seam after termination of water pumping into the fracture.
