Global extent of rivers and streams

open access: yesScience, 2018
Expanding the role of rivers The surfaces of rivers and streams are interfaces for a host of chemical exchanges with the atmosphere and biosphere. For instance, carbon dioxide outgassing from rivers is estimated to be equivalent to one-fifth of combined ...

Auditory segregation: Stream or streams?

Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1975
When auditory material segregates into "streams," is the unattended stream actually organized as an entity? An affirmative answer is suggested by the observation that the organizational structure of the unattended material interacts with the structure of material to which the subject is trying to attend.

Streams within streams

2013
Abstract The functional architecture of the dorsal and ventral streams is reviewed. Evidence is presented from neurological patients, brain imaging (particular functional MRI), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and other studies using the modern techniques available in cognitive neuroscience.

Streaming organism

Medical Hypotheses, 1995
The cell kinetic characteristic of all epithelia is the same. All are analogs of the crypt-villus unit of the gastrointestinal mucosa. Each unit is nourished by at least one determined uncommitted stem cell (DS). When the DS divides, one of its progeny replaces the parent and remains a DS, while the other starts streaming outward.

Cold streams in early massive hot haloes as the main mode of galaxy formation

Nature, 2008
Massive galaxies in the young Universe, ten billion years ago, formed stars at surprising intensities. Although this is commonly attributed to violent mergers, the properties of many of these galaxies are incompatible with such events, showing gas-rich ...

Streaming Music, Streaming Capital

2023
In Streaming Music, Streaming Capital, Eric Drott analyzes the political economy of online music streaming platforms. Attentive to the way streaming has reordered the production, circulation, and consumption of music, Drott examines key features of this new musical economy, including the roles played by data collection, playlisting, new methods of ...

Stream Fluting and Stream Erosion

The Journal of Geology, 1935
Swiftly moving sand or silt-laden water currents sometimes abrade grooves, elongated in the direction of flow, in stream boulders and in the bedrock of the stream channel. Discontinuous grooves of irregular pattern result from turbulence of the water flow.

Acoustic Streaming

Theoretical and Computational Fluid Dynamics, 1998
We discuss two types of acoustic streaming, namely the ``quartz wind'' and Rayleigh streaming. Both are associated with flows that are dominated by their fluctuating components, and owe their origin to the action of Reynolds stresses. In the former, these stresses arise within the main body of the fluid when an ultrasonic beam propagates into it; in ...
