Joining Street-View Images and Building Footprint GIS Data

Proceedings of the 1st ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on Searching and Mining Large Collections of Geospatial Data, 2021
This paper proposes a new method to join building footprint GIS data with the relevant buildings in a street-view image, taken by a vehicle-mounted camera. This is achieved by segmenting buildings in the street-view images and identifying the relevant building coordinates in the image.

Automatic face detection system for street view images

2012 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO), 2012
As street view images have been widely used in digital maps, detecting and blurring faces in these images for privacy protection is highly needed. In this paper, an automatic face detection system for street view images is constructed. Firstly, image pre-processing is used to increase image's global contrast.

Non-Ghosting Stitching for Street-View Image

2020 Cross Strait Radio Science & Wireless Technology Conference (CSRSWTC), 2020
Parallax, relative camera motion, and illumination changes can cause artifacts in stitched images. For example, we might see ghosting effect on the pedestrian who is located at the overlapping region in a stitched image. Existing techniques struggle at dealing with the artifacts and perspective distortion.

Multiple view semantic segmentation for street view images

2009 IEEE 12th International Conference on Computer Vision, 2009
We propose a simple but powerful multi-view semantic segmentation framework for images captured by a camera mounted on a car driving along streets. In our approach, a pair-wise Markov Random Field (MRF) is laid out across multiple views. Both 2D and 3D features are extracted at a super-pixel level to train classifiers for the unary data terms of MRF ...

Geo-localization of street views with aerial image databases

Proceedings of the 19th ACM international conference on Multimedia, 2011
We study the feasibility of solving the challenging problem of geolocalizing ground level images in urban areas with respect to a database of images captured from the air such as satellite and oblique aerial images. We observe that comprehensive aerial image databases are widely available while complete coverage of urban areas from the ground is at ...

Google Street View: navigating the operative image

Visual Studies, 2014
Via a close navigation of a Google Street View (GSV) scene in Oslo, this article investigates the role the photographic image plays in what has come to be known as ‘locative media’ – an entire range of image software that runs on mobile devices using GPS signals to locate the user, and that emerged after the United States government decided to end the ...

Google Street View and the Image as Experience

GeoHumanities, 2016
Google Street View (GSV) presents the world as fact, mapped and documented, and reconstituted online: an approximation of the street condition. Google’s fleet takes the built environment as its territory, renders it photographically, and maps it spatially. GSV’s comprehensive coverage makes it useful for daily navigational needs, and its diverse mapped

Sidewalk extraction using aerial and street view images

Environment and Planning B: Urban Analytics and City Science, 2021
A reliable, punctual, and spatially accurate dataset of sidewalks is vital for identifying where improvements can be made upon urban environment to enhance multi-modal accessibility, social cohesion, and residents' physical activity. This paper develops a synthetically new spatial procedure to extract the sidewalk by integrating the detected results ...

Road Segmentation in Street View Images Using Texture Information

2016 13th Conference on Computer and Robot Vision (CRV), 2016
Road segmentation is a problem encountered fairly frequently, especially in the framework of scene understanding and self-driving cars. On the flip side, there are several Street View databases that offer large amounts of useful data, which are still relatively untapped.
