Chemical speciation of lead compounds in street dusts

Research report:Street dust samples from several sites in London, Birmingham, and Lancaster, England, were collected and analyzed. The six lead species found in the various street dust samples are reported. The major cyrstalline lead compound in street dusts was lead sulfate. Formation mechanisms of lead sulfate are suggested. On Br and Pb in Cairo street dust

Abstract The mean Br/Pb ratio in Cairo street dust is 0.23 (raw data), or 0.395 (Pb background corrected), resp. It is calculated that 60–70% of the Pb found in city center dust are traffic‐related, the remainder is due to industrial emissions.

Toxic metals in street and household dusts

Street and household dusts have been sampled within the Lancaster area (U.K.), and analysed for Pb, Cd, Cr, Co, Cu, Ni and Zn. The concentration of each metal has been determined both as total and extractable metal, the latter referring to metal soluble in a 0.07N hydrochloric acid solution.

Organic lead in street dusts

Trace elements in street and house dusts: sources and speciation

The sources and speciation of trace elements in street and house dusts are reviewed. Soil is a major component of both dusts, but a number of elements are enriched in both materials. These include Pb, Zn, Cu, Cd, As, Sb, Cr, Ca, Na, Au, Cl and Br. They arise from a number of contributing and polluting sources.
