Structurally heterogeneous material strength criterion
Strength of Materials, 1993We present the results of experimental and theoretical studies of the limit surface shape for a filled elastic polymer of heterogeneous structure. The construction of the strength criterion for the studied material is realized by a semiempirical method, analogous to the Mohr theory. The limit surface is approximated by two trihedral pyramids, narrowing

General Strength Criterion for Geomaterials
International Journal of Geomechanics, 2003This note presents the results of a study on the variation of the strength of geomaterials. A general isotropic strength criterion is proposed which unifies the peak strength and critical state (or steady state) strength into one strength criterion. The proposed criterion describes the strength of a geomaterial in terms of its current stress state, its

Strength Criterion for Intact Rock
Indian Geotechnical Journal, 2016Based on studies of the peak strength for soil by the authors, a simple strength criterion for intact rock is obtained in the general principal stress space. There are two material parameters in the equation. One is the uniaxial compression strength of the rock; the other describes the influence of stress level, and similar parameters are well studied ...

Peak shear strength criterion for mismatched rock joints: Revisiting JRC-JMC criterion
International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences, 2021Abstract Rock joints with different matching conditions are widely existing in nature. The safety of engineering structure is significantly affected by the peak shear strength of mismatched rock joints; however, the available criteria do not work well for evaluating the peak shear strength of mismatched rock joints. In this study, the mismatched rock-

Strength of Materials, 2004
We propose a local criterion of brittle strength for structurally inhomogeneous materials based on the size effect of mechanical properties of materials under the conditions of stress concentration. It is assumed that the function of local strength of the material depends on the scaling factor equal to the ratio of the size of the zone of stress ...

Empirical Strength Criterion for Rock Masses
Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1980An empirical strength criterion for rocks and rock masses is proposed. The nonlinear criterion includes the uniaxial compressive strength of the intact rock material and introduces two dimensionless parameters, m and s. The parameter m varies with rock type, the angle of interblock or interparticle friction and the degree of block or particle interlock.

Dynamic Strength Criterion for Concrete
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 2004An integral dynamic strength criterion for concrete is proposed, which accounts for the short duration stress history in the range idealized as elastic. The concept of critical value of generalized stress impulse, proposed by Campbell for steel, was applied to concrete.

A criterion of strength for orthotropic materials
Fibre Science and Technology, 1975The criterion of strength for anisotropic media proposed by Gol'denblat and Kopnov2 is adopted in this paper. The invariants for the strength function having orthotropic symmetry are used to formulate a criterion of strength for orthotropic materials.

Study on strength criterion for frozen soil
Cold Regions Science and Technology, 2019Abstract It is established that the strength of frozen soil exhibits apparent nonlinearity in the p–q plane. As the mean stress p increases, in certain experimental conditions, the strength of frozen soil increases rapidly and then reduces gradually; however, in certain other conditions, the strength increases gradually and then reduces rapidly.

A New Strength Criterion for Concrete
ACI Structural Journal, 2002A new strength criterion defining the general ultimate stress of concrete is presented. A linear interpolation shape function in the deviatoric plane based on the Unified Twin-Shear Strength theory for all types of materials is developed. The criterion for concrete adopts the generalized linear interpolation functions in the deviatoric plane and the ...
