The strength-based mirror effect in subjective strength ratings: The evidence for differentiation can be produced without differentiation

Memory & Cognition, 2012
Criss (Cognitive Psychology 59:297-319, 2009) reported that subjective ratings of memory strength showed a mirror effect pattern in which strengthening the studied words increased ratings for targets and decreased ratings for lures. She interpreted the effect on lure items as evidence for differentiation, a process whereby lures produce a poorer match ...

Modeling the differential effect of brand strength on the sales effect of advertising

Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, 2021
Although marketing managers consider consumer mind-set regarding brand strength a key performance measure of advertising on the premise that it mediates the effect on sales, they rarely consider it...

Mohr-Coulomb criterion with circular failure envelope, extended to materials with strength-differential effect

Materials & Design (1980-2015), 2018
The linear Mohr–Coulomb (M-C) failure criterion is widely used to describe the behaviour of materials with compression/tension asymmetry, such as geological materials.

Comments on “The strength differential and bauschinger effects in SiC-Al composites”

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 1989
We discuss here the interpretation given by Arsenault and Wu of the Bauschinger effect for metal matrix composites and explain why their usage of the Bauschinger strain relation derived by Pedersen et al. for pure copper is misconceived. We then further analyse the data to highlight the importance of relaxation.

A new work function for pressure-independent materials exhibiting the strength-differential effect

Journal of Mechanics
The work function introduced in the 1950s significantly broadens the applicability of the upper-bound theorem, a vital tool for solving boundary-value problems in plasticity. However, few publications attempt to apply this technique.

Modeling of Strength Differential Effects in HCP Sheet Materials

Volume 2: Processing, 2014
A simple approach is proposed to employ symmetric yield functions for modeling the tension-compression asymmetry commonly observed in hcp materials. In this work, the strength differential (SD) effect is modeled by choosing separate symmetric plane stress Barlat Yld 2000 yield functions for the tension i.e., in the first quadrant of principal stress ...

The strength differential and Bauschinger effects in SiCAl composites

Materials Science and Engineering, 1987
Abstract An investigation was undertaken to determine the effect of an average elastic residual stress on the strength differential and the Bauschinger effects in SiCAl alloy composites. It was found that the compressive yield stress on the omposites was greater than the tensile yield stress for whisker- and platelet-reinforced composites but, for ...

The effect of a zirconium strength differential on cladding collapse predictions

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1975
Abstract An investigation was made into the occurrence of a strength differential in the Zircaloy cladding of LWR fuels, and into the effect such a strength differential can have on the analytical predictions of cladding creep collapse during fuel densification. The strength differential, or SD, refers to the difference in the compressive and tensile

Differential effects of list strength on recollection and familiarity.

Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, 2002
Numerous studies have found a null list strength effect (LSE) for recognition sensitivity: Strengthening memory traces associated with some studied items does not impair recognition of nonstrengthened studied items. In Experiment 1, the author found a LSE using receiver operating characteristic-based measures of recognition sensitivity.
