Strengthening mechanisms in nanostructured aluminum
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2008Structural parameters that characterize deformation produced nanostructures are the structural morphology, boundary spacing, boundary misorientation and interior dislocation density. These parameters have been determined and related to the yield stress of nanostructured Al produced by accumulative roll bonding (ARB) based on mechanisms such as ...

Strengthening mechanisms in Cu3Au
Acta Metallurgica, 1978The effect of temperature and strain rate on the mechanical behavior of originally disordered and ordered polycrystalline Cu3Au was investigated in the range 273–648 K. While stress-strain curves exhibit serrations identical to those attributable to dynamic strain aging, no correlation seems to exist between the presence of the serrations and the yield

Creep Strengthening Mechanisms
1982In the choise of the materials for the most crytical high temening mechanisms in superalloys. Solid solution-, particle-, and dislocation-strengthening are considered in dislocation creep. σ∘ concept is discussed and σ∘ data of superalloys reported. Diffusional creep and grain boundary sliding are also examined.

Strengthening mechanisms in nanocrystalline alloys
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2008Abstract The mechanisms for strengthening nanocrystalline metals by alloy additions are reviewed and a new model for nano-particle strengthening by Orowan bypassing in nano-grains is proposed. Recent experimental results for three different nanocrystalline alloy systems, Fe–Pb, Fe–Al 2 O 3 and Al–Pb are presented and analyzed in terms of non ...

The Mechanism of Polyvinylamine Wet-strengthening
Trans. of the XIIIth Fund. Res. Symp. Cambridge, 2005, 2005Regenerated cellulose films were laminated with polyvinylamine, PVAm, and the wet peel delamination forces were used to explore the mechanism by which PVAm increases the wet strength of paper. Conventional wet strength resins contain highly reactive chemical groups which can crosslink the resin and graft it to fibre surfaces.

Strengthening Mechanisms in Mg97Zn1Y2 Alloys
2015We elucidate the strengthening mechanisms of Mg-Zn-Y alloys containing long-periodic stacking ordered (LPSO) structures, based on comprehensive electron microscopy investigations. Kinking of the LPSO structures is not only an important way to accommodate plastic deformation effectively, but also simultaneously strengthens the alloy as a result of ...

Dynamic Recovery as a Strengthening Mechanism
Solid State PhenomenaRecovery usually softens strain hardened coarse grained metallic materials but it can increase the strength of ultrafine grained materials. The present work shows evidence that dynamic recovery can produce strain-hardening behavior in ultrafine grained aluminum processed by high pressure torsion.

THE STRENGTHENING MECHANISM OF FERROUS MARTENSITE
1963Abstract : A model is proposed to account for the observed strengthening behavior of ferrous martensites. The model is based upon the inheritance of carbon rich regions by the martensite which were present in the austenite prior to transformation. These carbon rich regions strengthen the martensite in a manner analogous to the strengthening effect due ...

Strengthening mechanisms in aluminum alloys
2011The substructure of pure aluminum and over-aged Al-4Cu has been varied by mechanical and thermal treatments. The nature of this substructure and its resistance to annealing has been studied, together with the effect of the substructure on tensile strength at ambient and elevated temperatures.
