„Streptococcal toxic shock-like syndrome“

Der Chirurg, 1998
Since the mid-1980s increasing numbers of severe group A streptococcal infections (Streptococcus pyogenes) have been reported worldwide. Younger, healthy patients after minor local trauma are most commonly afflicted. The infection is characterized by a rapid course with shock, sepsis, multiorgan failure, soft-tissue infection and a high mortality rate.

Streptococcal Toxic Shock Syndrome

Zentralblatt für Bakteriologie, 1990
Staphylococcal toxic shock syndrome toxin-1 (TSST-1) is an important factor of pathogenicity, but further unknown toxins may exist because some strains isolated from such cases dit not produce TSST-1. The mechanism of action of TSST-1 is not fully understood but induction of mediators like TNF and IL-1 seems to play an important role.

The Toxic Shock Syndrome and Streptococcal Pyrogenic Exotoxins

Annals of Internal Medicine, 1983

A fatal case of streptococcal toxic shock syndrome

Tropical Doctor, 2008
SUMMARY In daily medical practice, streptococcal toxic shock syndrome is an infrequent clinical entity which carry a very high risk of fatality. Early recognition of this toxin mediated immunopathological disease is very important to apply necessary invasive procedures such as an prompt amputation of the effected areas to save the patient.

Necrotizing group a streptococcal infections associated with streptococcal toxic shock syndrome

The American Journal of Surgery, 1996
Group A streptococci (GAS) cause a variety of life-threatening infectious complications, including necrotizing fasciitis (NF), purpura fulminans (PF), and streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (strepTSS), in which bacteremia is associated with shock and organ failure. We reviewed our experience in the management of patients with necrotizing GAS infections ...

Streptococcal Toxic Shock Masking Lemierre's Syndrome

Cureus
We report a case of a previously healthy woman presenting with septic shock unresponsive to seven litres of intravenous fluid resuscitation, broad-spectrum antimicrobials, necessitating admission to intensive care. The history and clinical presentation suggested streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS), and group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus (GAS ...

Report on the first case of streptococcal toxic shock syndrome in the GDR. The patient was a 54-year-old female. One week before admission to the hospital she cut her finger. The day before admission to the hospital she presented with a painful left shoulder. Demarcation followed, and Streptococcus pyogenes (group A streptococci) was isolated from this

Streptococcal Toxic Shock Syndrome (STSS)

1997
During the last 10 years there has been an increasing interest in the streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS) due to its often very dramatic clinical course and the high mortality despite adequate antibiotic therapy. The deeper knowledge acquired recently on the intricate interplay between the virulence factors of the streptococci and the host may ...
