Streptococcus oralis-Induced Meningoencephalitis and Ventriculitis in a Geriatric Female Patient. [PDF]

open access: yesCureus, 2023
A 71-year-old female with a history of hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia developed altered mental status, fever, headache, and vomiting. Subsequent evaluation revealed meningoencephalitis and ventriculitis due to Streptococcus oralis, which was found to be ceftriaxone-sensitive.

Streptococcus oralis meningitis in pregnancy. [PDF]

open access: yesObstet Med, 2022
While pregnancy is a time of relative immunosuppression, infective endocarditis and bacterial meningitis remain rare. We present a case of a pregnant woman with Streptococcus oralis endocarditis and meningitis. This is the first reported case of Streptococcus oralis meningitis in a patient without predisposing risk factors.

Hydrogen peroxide contributes to the epithelial cell death induced by the oral mitis group of streptococci. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Members of the mitis group of streptococci are normal inhabitants of the commensal flora of the oral cavity and upper respiratory tract of humans. Some mitis group species, such as Streptococcus oralis and Streptococcus sanguinis, are primary colonizers ...

Antibody binding to Streptococcus mitis and Streptococcus oralis cell fractions [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Oral Biology, 2008
To determine which cell fraction(s) of Streptococcus mitis biovar 1 serve as the best source of antigens recognized by salivary SIgA antibodies in infants.Whole cells of 38 reference and wild-type isolates of S. mitis, Streptococcus oralis, Streptococcus gordonii, Enterococcus casseliflavus, and Enterococcus faecalis were fractionated into cell walls ...

Defining antibody targets in Streptococcus oralis infection [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 1996
Immunoblotting of sera from 12 neutropenic patients with Streptococcus oralis septicemia and 18 patients with endocarditis due to viridans group streptococci revealed immunodominant S. oralis antigens at 85 and 180 kDa. The former cross-reacted with a mouse monoclonal antibody to hsp90.

Peritoneal Dialysis-Related Peritonitis Caused by Streptococcus oralis. [PDF]

open access: yesIntern Med, 2021
A 77-year-old man developed peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis caused by Streptococcus oralis, a rare pathogen causing the disease. The infection, which was not controlled by one-week intraperitoneal administration of cefazolin and ceftazidime, was cured only after switching to two-week intravenous administration of cefazolin and ceftazidime.

Bidirectional effects of neutrophils on Streptococcus oralis biofilms in vitro. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Oral Microbiol
Streptococcus oralis is a commensal bacterium and an early biofilm coloniser found in the human oral cavity. One of the biofilm matrix constituents is bacterial extracellular DNA (eDNA). Neutrophils are innate immune cells that respond to biofilms, employing antimicrobial mechanisms such as neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) and reactive oxygen ...

Evaluation of the Antimicrobial Effect of Thymoquinone against Different Dental Pathogens: An In Vitro Study

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial effect of Thymoquinone (TQ) on four different oral microorganisms. Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC), Minimum Inhibition Concentration (MIC), Broth microdilution, and Well diffusion tests were used to

Streptococcus gallinarum sp. nov. and Streptococcus oralis sp. nov. [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic Bacteriology, 1982
A numerical taxonomic survey of numerous strains of streptococci showed the presence of two clusters of strains that are distinct from the presently named species of Streptococcus. One group, from chicken intestines, is named S. gallinarum and the other, from the human mouth, is named S. oralis.
