Metabolic changes associated with adaptive resistance to daptomycin in Streptococcus mitis-oralis
Background Viridans group streptococci of the Streptococcus mitis-oralis subgroup are important endovascular pathogens. They can rapidly develop high-level and durable non-susceptibility to daptomycin both in vitro and in vivo upon exposure to daptomycin.

Systemic, Lifestyle and Environmental Modifying Factors in the Pathogenesis of Periodontitis
A variety of impacting factors in the pathogenesis of periodontitis exist, including systemic, lifestyle, and environmental factors. This review highlights the manifold mechanistic aspects of the link between the pathogenesis of periodontitis, addressing these numerous factors to supplement the long‐standing knowledge of the progression of the disease.

Abstract Background Alzheimer‘s disease (AD) is the leading cause of cognitive impairment and dementia in elderly patients worldwide. There is increasing evidence that periodontal disease may have an important role in the complex, multifactorial pathogenesis of AD. Aim This narrative review aims to (1) highlight the current understanding of the role of

Streptococcus oralis maintains homeostasis in oral biofilms by antagonizing the cariogenic pathogen Streptococcus mutans [PDF]
SummaryBacteria residing in oral biofilms live in a state of dynamic equilibrium with one another. The intricate synergistic or antagonistic interactions between them are crucial for determining this balance. Using the six‐species Zürich “supragingival” biofilm model, this study aimed to investigate interactions regarding growth and localization of the

Engineered surface strategies to manage dental implant‐related infections
Abstract When exposed to the oral environment, dental implants, like natural surfaces, become substrates for microbial adhesion and accumulation, often leading to implant‐related infections—one of the main causes of implant failure. These failures impose significant costs on patients, clinicians, and healthcare systems.

Abstract Peri‐implant diseases are dysbiosis‐mediated inflammatory disorders that occur in susceptible hosts. Antimicrobials and immunomodulatory agents therefore might be pertinent as adjunctive measures in the treatment of such disorders. The aim of this narrative review was to examine the existing evidence and assess the effectiveness of emerging ...

Genome sequence of the temperate bacteriophage PH10 from Streptococcus oralis [PDF]
Exponential growing cultures of Streptococcus oralis strain OMZ 1038, isolated from human supragingival dental plaque, were found to release a bacteriophage (designated PH10) upon treatment with mitomycin C. The complete genome sequence of phage PH10 was determined. The genome was 31276 bp in size and contained 54 open reading frames.
