Urban ants as potential mechanical vectors of pathogenic and antibiotic‐resistant bacteria in a Brazilian hospital

Nine ant taxa were identified in a Brazilian hospital, with Tapinoma melanocephalum and Dorymyrmex brunneus being the most abundant. Eighty‐five percent of collected ants yielded detectable bacterial growth, including clinically relevant genera such as Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas, Escherichia coli and Pluralibacter.

ABSTRACT Oral commensal streptococci play a large role in mediating microbial homeostasis. Our prior work has demonstrated that hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) produced by oral commensal streptococci can react with salivary nitrite (NO2) and generate peroxynitrite (ONOO−), a potent antimicrobial.

Postoperative Antibiotic Duration and Treatment Failure After Aseptic Revision Arthroplasty With a Single Unexpected Positive Culture: A Retrospective Cohort Study

Prolonged postoperative antibiotic use was associated with higher treatment failure in aseptic revision arthroplasty with a single unexpected positive culture, suggesting that extended antibiotic therapy may not improve outcomes and highlighting the need for individualized treatment strategies.
