A Comparison of Group A Streptococcus Versus Streptococcus pneumoniae Pneumonia

Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, 2006
St reptococcus pyogenes is an uncommon cause of community-acquired pneumonia in children. Further, its clinical course in comparison to pneumonia caused by Streptococcus pneumonia has not been previously highlighted. We reviewed medical records of children 0-18 years of age from April 1983 to April 2005, with discharge diagnoses of invasive disease ...

Streptococcus pneumoniae Endocarditis

Southern Medical Journal, 1987
We have reported a case of Streptococcus pneumoniae endocarditis involving the aortic valve of a 61-year-old alcoholic man. Antibiotic therapy with vancomycin sterilized the blood and valve, but aortic valve replacement was required for progressive congestive heart failure resulting from a ruptured valve leaflet.

Bacteriophages of Streptococcus pneumoniae

Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1981
Properties of some of the bacteriophages of Streptococcus pneumoniae are reviewed. Studies with these phages have yielded several interesting observations and results. (1) A simple transfection system that uses DNA of mature pneumococcal phages was developed; results of studies utilizing this system have determined the intracellular events that ...

We retrospectively review our experience with four patients with Streptococcus pneumoniae scleritis. Two of the patients had been exposed to beta irradiation after pterygium removal 4 and 13 years previously. Electrotransformation of Streptococcus pneumoniae

Letters in Applied Microbiology, 1994
Conditions of electroporation to transform encapsulated strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae with plasmid DNA have been defined. For a heavily encapsulated strain, an electroporation solution of 10-20% (v/v) glycerol and 3.2 kV cm −1 field strength, 1000 Ω resistance and 25 μF capacitance were optimal.
