A model of stress induced martensitic transformation in Fe–Ni–C alloy
A model for the stress induced martensitic transformation in zirconia ceramics was refined and extended to investigate the process of stress induced martensitic transformation in an Fe-Ni-C alloy in compression. The relationships between the amount of martensite transformed, the volume change, and the longitudinal and transverse strains caused by the ...

Stress-induced FCC ↔ HCP martensitic transformation in CoNi
Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2004Abstract This study investigated the thermomechanical behaviour of the FCC↔HCP martensitic phase transformation in Co–32Ni single crystal during thermal cycling under constant tensile loading. It was found that under constant external stress both the forward FCC↔HCP transformation and the reverse HCP→FCC transformation yielded transformation ...

Stress-induced martensitic phase transformation in Cu–Zr nanowires
A novel stress-induced martensitic phase transformation in an initial /{100} B2-CuZr nanowire is reported for the first time in this letter. Such behavior is observed in a nanowire with cross-sectional dimensions of 19.44 x 19.44 angstrom(2) over a temperature range of 100-400 K and at a strain rate of 1 x 10(9) s(-1) using atomistic simulations ...

Constitutive Laws for Ceramics Exhibiting Stress-Induced Martensitic Transformation
ABSTRACTThe theory of internal variables is used in order to develop multiaxial constitutive laws for ceramics undergoing martensitic stress-assisted transformation, such as partially stabilized zirconia or A12O3-ZrO2. The internal variable is identified with the volume concentration of transformed particles, and we assume that transformation occurs so

Micromechanics of stress-induced martensitic transformation
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2004Abstract This work proposes that the structure of a twinned martensite plate is dependent upon temperature and stress. The uniaxial tensile stress required to induce the formation of a martensite plate is predicted to be smaller than that calculated under the assumption that the plate has a fixed structure subject to the criterion of invariant plane ...

Mechanical energy criterion for stress-induced martensitic transformation
Scripta Materialia, 2003It is proposed on the basis of equilibrium thermodynamics that the microstructure of a stress-induced twinned martensite plate adheres to the criterion of mechanical free energy minimisation, rather than that of invariant plane deformation. This lowers the predicted transformation stress.
