A principal stress method of stress analysis
Journal of the Franklin Institute, 1947Abstract The equations of equilibrium in a stress field as given by Lame are compared with those given by Cauchy. The (P − Q and P − R) terms of the Lame equations identified by the new words detend and double detend are invariant for any point in a stress field. The principal stresses are defined as real stress components. The ∂Xx ∂x terms of

On the Analysis of Asymmetric Stress
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1972An attempt has been made to analyze asymmetric stress. Bounds for the principal stresses have been established in terms of the principal stresses corresponding to the symmetric part of the stress tensor. Sufficient conditions for the existence of one or three principal stresses have been established.

Abstract An analytical model is developed for the determination of the mechanical stresses in a femur under various loading conditions. The effects of both the body weight transmitted through the femur and the muscle forces acting on it are considered in the analysis.

The nonverbal content of speech carries information about the physiological and psychological condition of the speaker. Psychological stress is a pathological element of this condition, of which the cause is accepted to be “workload”. Objective, quantifiable correlates of stress are searched for by means of measuring the acoustic modifications of the ...

Stress Analysis (Direct Stresses)
1990In Programme 3 we saw how external loads on a pin jointed frame structure induced axial forces in the individual members of the frame. In Programme 4 we saw how external loads induced shearing forces and bending moments in beams. We now begin to look more closely at the way in which the material of which the structure is made reacts to the effect of ...

In this section we analyze inner forces in a deformable body. A deformable body could be solid or fluid. We do not go into the mathematical definition of a solid and fluid body1 (for such a definition, see Truesdell and Noll (1965)). We define a solid as a deformable body that possesses shear strength, i.e., a solid body can support shearing forces ...

The analysis of stress is fundamental to the study of the mechanical behaviour of all materials whether they behave plastically, viscoelastically, or, as in the considerations of this text, in a linearly elastic manner.
