Mechanical degradation of Fe-C-X steels by acidic stress-corrosion cracking

open access: yes, 2020
This work evaluates the mechanical degradation of Fe-C-X (X = Cr/Mo/V) steels due to stress-corrosion cracking (SCC) in acidic aqueous environment. Tensile testing of as-quenched and quenched-and-tempered Fe-C-X steels in corrosive environment shows a ...

Coupling Anodic Activity and Stability at Ni‐Based Non‐Oxide Catalysts via Coordinating Alcohol Oxidation and Oxygen Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A cooperative and competitive interrelationship between alcohol oxidation (AOR) and water oxidation (OER) was observed on a typical anode catalyst of Ni2P. In situ Raman spectroscopy and electrochemical analyses revealed a specific complementary mechanism between them, in which OER and AOR critically contribute to the activity and stability of anodic ...

Sustainable Electrochemical Synthesis of High‐Quality MXenes: Mechanistic Insights, Applications, Challenges, and Technological Prospects

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrochemical etching provides an eco‐friendly alternative to hazardous HF methods for MXene production. This approach facilitates the selective isolation of the A‐layer from MAX phases with tunable surface terminations. Controlling voltage, electrolytes, temperature, and duration enables the optimal structural integrity. Nevertheless, existing scale

Wood Cellulosic Membrane With Abundant Nanochannels for Stabilizing Aqueous Zn‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A wood‐derived cellulosic membrane separator is developed to suppress dendrite growth in aqueous zinc‐ion batteries. Its aligned nanochannels and hydroxyl‐rich surfaces enable uniform Zn2+ flux, water immobilization, and interfacial stabilization. Zn||Zn cells achieve 1920 h of cycling, Zn||Cu cells maintain 99.5% Coulombic efficiency over 1000 cycles,

Low-Cycle Corrosion Fatigue Deformation Mechanism for an α+β Ti-6Al-4V-0.55Fe Alloy

open access: yesMetals
Titanium alloys with high strength and good corrosion resistance have become one of the critical bearing structural materials in marine engineering. But in service, corrosion fatigue would occur under the synergetic action of cyclic external load and ...

Immunoinflammatory Mechanisms and Biocompatibility of Bioactive Dental Biomaterials: From Fundamental Insights to Clinical Translation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Surface‐host dialogue at the implant interface governs biological fate and osseointegration. Surface physicochemical properties of titanium (Ti) dental implants, including microgrooves, nanopatterns, nanotopography, roughness, and wettability, modulate the initial adsorption of proteins and the formation of a dynamic biointerface.

A Comparative Study of Localized Corrosion and Stress Corrosion Cracking of 13Cr Martensitic Stainless Steel Using Acoustic Emission and X-ray Computed Tomography

open access: yes, 2019
An accurate evaluation of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in 13Cr martensitic stainless steel (MSS) is still missing due to the lack of an in-situ insight into the process evolution and full characterization of the corrosion morphology. In this work, two

POM‐Based Water Splitting Catalyst Under Acid Conditions Driven by Its Assembly on Carbon Nanotubes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A newly‐engineered POM‐based electrocatalyst incorporating non‐innocent counter cations exhibits fast kinetics for either the OER or HER under strongly acidic conditions (1 m H2SO4), depending on whether it is assembled on carbon nanotubes (1@CNT) or physically mixed with them (1/CNT). In water‐splitting tests using a two‐electrode setup, these systems

Thermal Stress Relaxation and High-Temperature Corrosion of Cr-Mo Steel Processed Using Multifunction Cavitation

open access: yes, 2018
This research investigated high-temperature corrosion (500 °C) of Cr-Mo steel processed using water jet peening or multifunction cavitation (MFC), and the suitability of such steel for high-temperature boilers and reaction vessels.
