Abstract Residual stress (RS) significantly impacts the mechanical performance of components. Measurement of RS often provides incomplete data in terms of components of stress and spatial density. Employing such fields in finite element simulations results in significant modification of the field to achieve equilibrium and compatibility ...

The problem considered in this paper is aimed at modification of earlier developed algorithms for the stress field reconstructions from discrete data on stress orientations in the earth’s crust. The modification is made for an elastic layer and takes into account the weight of the rockmasses and the vertical loads acting on the interfaces of the layer.

Computorized Reconstruction of Ultrasonic Velocity Fields for Mapping of Residual Stress
1977It is well known that the velocity of sound propagation through a solid is altered when a stress is applied. The velocity change is small, and dependent upon the type of wave being propagated as wall as the magnitude of the stress. Sensitivity is greatest to shear wave sound with the polarization vector parallel to the direction of stress. In this case,

This paper deals with the identification of elasto-plastic constitutive parameters from deformation fields measured over the surface of thin flat specimens with the grid method. The approach for recovering the constitutive parameters is the virtual fields method.

This study reconstructs a two-dimensional stress field from measured strain data. The advantage of using stress functions is that the stress equilibrium and strain compatibility are automatically satisfied. We use the complex stress functions given by the finite series of polynomials.

For improving global stability of mining environment reconstructing structure, the stress field evolution law of the structure with the filling height change of low-grade backfill was studied by ADINA finite element analysis code. Three kinds of filling schemes were designed and calculated, in which the filling heights were 2, 4, and 7 m, separately ...

Reconstruction of Stress Fields for the Aegean by a Finite Element Model
1980Since Ritsema 1974, a large number of focal plane data exist for the Aegean. In the present study, the reconstruction of the stress field due to the direction of maximum compression as found in Ritsema is attempted by a Finite-Element model. The fracture patterns thus simulated are compared with the results of photolineations determined from aerial ...

A new method for quantitative reconstruction of a three dimensional (3D) velocity field from ultrasound color doppler mapping (USCDM) images is used here to calculate the shear stress distribution on the endothelial layer of an artery. Measurements of a few spatially unrestricted USCDM transverse cross sectional images of the artery, and of several ...

From strain to stress using full-field data: Computationally efficient stress reconstruction
Materials Research ProceedingsAbstract. Conventional stress reconstruction based on full-field strain measurements presents a major computational burden, especially when using standard implicit stress integration methods. This presents a notable challenge for inverse identification methods used to characterize the plasticity of metallic materials, particularly those reliant on ...
