AbstractPolyunsaturated fatty acids are primary targets during oxidative stress. Diffusible electrophilic α,β‐unsaturated aldehydes, such as 4‐hydroxynonenal (HNE), have been shown to modify proteins that mediate cell signaling and modify gene expression pathways. We describe a global strategy for identifying the protein targets of HNE modification.

Aims. This paper reports a study whose purpose was to revalidate the Hung Postpartum Stress Scale by expanding and revising its contexts to reflect the social changes that have occurred in Taiwan over the last two decades.Background. Existing measures of general stress, which have also been used to assess postpartum stress, fail to measure women's ...

This article provides information on psychological assessments based on the most influential stress theories. In understanding the stress response and its relation to disease, clinical vignettes are provided. Emphasis is placed on assessment measures for use in the general population and on providing an overview of evidence for more commonly used ...

Stress Medicine, 1990
AbstractEmpirical findings from studies of stressful life events and well‐being have been disappointing. The difficulty with this literature may be attributed in part to basic problems in the measurement of stressful life events. The purpose of this article is to propose a measurement strategy that is based on stressors arising within social roles ...

Interferometric stress birefringence measurement
Applied Optics, 1992We describe a sensitive method for measuring the stress birefringence of an optical window that utilizes a phase-measuring Fizeau interferometer incorporating a variable retarder and a nonpolarizing beam splitter. When we test a material in an interferometer cavity, the wave front transmitted through the material is deviated by the surfaces ...

Acoustoelastic Stress Measurements
2003Within the framework of linear elasticity, the principal of superposition holds and the elastic wave velocity is independent of the stress acting in the solids. But, this is an approximation after all and solid materials exhibit nonlinear responses; the velocities vary in proportion to stress although in very small magnitude in general. This phenomenon,

The Stanford acousto-elastic stress measurement program is reviewed in this paper. A computer-controlled scanned transducer system has been used with longitudinal wave and shear wave trnasducers. Recently an EMAT surface wave measurement has also been employed.
