Stress relaxation of animal fibres

Biorheology, 1968
The phenomenon of stress relaxation in animal fibres, such as wool, is analysed with reference to proposed structural models for keratin. Rate of stress relaxation in wool is analysed by treating stress relaxation as a unimolecular reaction process. In general, the data fit this system reasonably well. Rate constants are given for the two samples under

Stress relaxation of interim restoratives

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1979
Stress relaxation of four temporary restoratives was studied. In the vicinity of ambient mouth temperature, the relaxation characteristics of an unmodified zinc oxide-eugenol cement were more favorable than those of IRM and Cavit. The plastic behavior of gutta-percha temporary stopping precluded assessment of its relaxation at temperatures in excess of

Stress-relaxation method

Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, 2012
A new method is presented for the compression testing of soils in a stress-relaxation regime; the method is based on stepwise forced deformation of a specimen with its subsequent relaxation. An alternate scheme of the method with forced stress release during relaxation is examined.

Bimodal stress relaxation

Scripta Metallurgica, 1987
The plasticity of a metal results from dislocations moving through a crystal; this rate of motion is determined by barriers in the crystal, and the drag between barriers. At low temperatures, where dislocation motion is underdamped, inertia plays an important role in overcoming barriers.

Stress relaxation microscopy: Imaging local stress in cells

Journal of Biomechanics, 2010
Biomechanics is gaining relevance as complementary discipline to structural and cellular biology. The response of cells to mechanical stimuli determines cell type and function, while the spatial distribution of mechanical forces within the cells is crucial to understand cell activity.

Biaxial stress-relaxation in skin

Annals of Biomedical Engineering, 1976
Results of 58 biaxial and uniaxial stress-relaxation tests on flat specimens of abdominal rabbit skin are analyzed. It is shown that rabbit skin is a nonlinear viscoelastic material, i.e., the relaxation mode of each stress component depends on the strain (or alternatively on the initial stress).
