On stress-energy tensors

General Relativity and Gravitation, 1977
We show how to introduce the “Noether Operator” of a (possibly constrained) variational principle even when the Lagrangian contains spinor fields (and their derivatives to any finite order). After relating that operator to the so-called “canonical” and “symmetric” stress-energy tensors, we construct explicitly the divergence by which these differ.

Dynamical stress function tensor

Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1982
This paper generalizes the concept of stress function tensor in static elasticity into the more general case of continuum dynamics, and finds out the expressions for dynamical stress function tensor.

The stress-energy tensor

2019
The “source” of gravity in the Einstein field equations is the stress-energy tensor. After a discussion of why gravitational mass should be part of a rank two tensor, this chapter derives the stress-energy tensor for a variety of types of matter: point particles, perfect fluids, scalar fields, and electromagnetism.

Tensor Components of Stress

1976
So far in our discussion of stress we have made as much use as possible of stress vectors, because vector quantities are relatively easy to understand and to visualize. We have pointed out, however, that there is a fundamental distinction between describing stress on a single plane using a stress vector and describing stress on the infinite collection ...

Stress and Strain Tensors

1991
The present book is restricted to small deformation of solid continua until Chapter X, where the finite deformation theory will start. Indicial notation rules, using subscripts to denote Cartesian components of tensors, will be followed until Section 10.6. Unless specified otherwise, subscripts 1, 2 and 3 denote Cartesian components in x 1, x 2 and x 3-
