Stress formulation of elastic wave motion [PDF]

open access: yesJASA Express Letters, 2021
Propagation of elastic waves in anisotropic solids is solved through a pure stress formalism. The stress solutions lead to the three wave solutions expected from the displacement formulation plus three non-propagating stresses with zero wave speed which do not satisfy the strain compatibility conditions.

Numerical simulations of fatigue failure processes in intermittent jointed rock masses under the action of repeated stress waves

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
To study the fatigue failure of an intermittent jointed rock mass under repeated stress waves, numerical models of jointed rock masses with different joint angles were created using Autodyne software, and crack propagation behavior was simulated using ...

An Analytical Method to Test Elastic Rock Mass Parameters Based on a Macro-Joint Model

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2021
The measurement of rock joint parameters is a hotly debated and difficult problem in rock mechanics. Joints have great influence on the propagation of stress waves in rock mass. Since the multiple reflections of stress waves propagating inside the joints

The vertical structure of the surface wave radiation stress for circulation over a sloping bottom as given by thickness-weighted-mean theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Previous attempts to derive the depth-dependent expression of the radiation stress have led to a debate concerning (i) the applicability of the Mellor approach to a sloping bottom, (ii) the introduction of the delta function at the mean sea surface in ...

Gravitational shock waves and vacuum fluctuations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We show that the vacuum expectation value of the stress-energy tensor of a scalar particle on the background of a spherical gravitational shock wave does not give a finite expression in second order perturbation theory, contrary to the case seen for the ...

Acoustic Emission Detection and Analysis Method for Health Status of Lithium Ion Batteries

open access: yesSensors, 2021
The health detection of lithium ion batteries plays an important role in improving the safety and reliability of lithium ion batteries. When lithium ion batteries are in operation, the generation of bubbles, the expansion of electrodes, and the formation

Image Reconstruction of Internal Defects in Wood Based on Segmented Propagation Rays of Stress Waves

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
In order to detect the size and shape of defects inside wood, an image reconstruction method based on segmented propagation rays of stress waves is proposed.

Nonuniform Deformation of Cell Structures Owing to Plastic Stress Wave Propagation

open access: yesApplied Mechanics, 2021
In cell structures, unlike in dense bodies, nonuniform deformation occurs from the impact end, even at velocities in the order of tens to hundreds of meters per second. In this study, we experimentally examine the nonuniform deformation mechanism of cell

Some Physical Consequences of Abrupt Changes in the Multipole Moments of a Gravitating Body [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The Barrab\`es-Israel theory of light-like shells in General Relativity is used to show explicitly that in general a light-like shell is accompanied by an impulsive gravitational wave.

Elastic Wave Scattering and Dynamic Stress Concentrations in Stretching Thick Plates with Two Cutouts by Using the Refined Dynamic Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Based on the refined dynamic equation of stretching plates, the elastic tension–compression wave scattering and dynamic stress concentrations in the thick plate with two cutouts are studied.
