Influence of notch hole wall defects on crack propagation under notch blasting

open access: yesBaozha yu Chongji
The defective cracks were prefabricated on the wall of the notch holes by using polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) material, which were parallel or vertical to the notch, and the distance from the defective cracks to the hole center was 2, 3, and 4 mm.

Use of an ultrasonic-acoustic technique for nondestructive evaluation of fiber composite strength [PDF]

open access: yes
Details of the method used to measure the stress wave factor are described. Frequency spectra of the stress waves are analyzed in order to clarify the nature of the wave phenomena involved.

Wave localization in strongly nonlinear Hertzian chains with mass defect

open access: yes, 2009
We investigate the dynamical response of a mass defect in a one-dimensional non-loaded horizontal chain of identical spheres which interact via the nonlinear Hertz potential.

Atomic Size Misfit for Electrocatalytic Small Molecule Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores the application and mechanisms of atomic size misfit in catalysis for small molecule activation, focusing on how structural defects and electronic properties can effectively lower the energy barriers of chemical bonds in molecules like H2O, CO2, and N2.

Enhancing Direct Solar Water Splitting via ALD of Multifunctional TiO2/Pt Nanoparticle Coatings With Engineered Interfaces to GaAs/GaInP Tandem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multifunctional atomic layer deposited coatings and interface treatments enhance direct solar water splitting on GaAs/GaInP tandem cells. Optimized TiO2/Pt nanoparticle bilayers ensure durability and catalytic efficiency with minimal optical losses, while H2 plasma pretreatments maximize photovoltage and interfacial charge extraction.

Pentagonal 2D Altermagnets: Material Screening and Altermagnetic Tunneling Junction Device Application

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
From a database of 170 pentagonal 2D materials, 4 candidates exhibiting altermagnetic ordering are screened. Furthermore, the spin‐splitting and unconventional boundary states in the pentagonal 2D altermagnetic monolayer MnS2 are investigated. A MnS2‐based altermagnetic tunneling junction is designed and, through ab initio quantum transport simulations,

Surface Shear and Persistent Wave Groups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We investigate the interaction of waves with surface flows by considering the full set of conserved quantities, subtle but important surface elevation changes induced by wave packets and by directly considering the necessary forces to prevent packet ...

Viscosity, Shear Waves, and Atomic-Level Stress-Stress Correlations

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2011
The Green-Kubo equation relates the macroscopic stress-stress correlation function to a liquid's viscosity. The concept of the atomic-level stresses allows the macroscopic stress-stress correlation function in the equation to be expressed in terms of the space-time correlations among the atomic-level stresses.
