Shock propagation through a bubbly liquid in a deformable tube [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Shock propagation through a bubbly liquid contained in a deformable tube is considered. Quasi-one-dimensional mixture-averaged flow equations that include fluid–structure interaction are formulated.

Additional Exploratory Photoelastic Studies in Stress Wave Propagation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1959
In a previous report to the sponsor, the design and description of a high speed framing camera was presented along with several film strips representing the results of a series of qualitative investigations of dynamic stress wave phenomena.

Characterisation of dynamic behaviour of alumina ceramics: evaluation of stress uniformity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Accurate characterisation of dynamic behaviour of ceramics requires the reliable split-Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) technique and the condition of uniaxial homogeneous specimen deformation.

Three‐dimensional Antimony Sulfide Based Flat Optics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents the development of a grayscale electron beam lithography (g‐EBL) method for fabricating antimony trisulfide (Sb2S3) nanostructures with customizable 3D profiles. The refractive index of g‐EBL patterned Sb2S3 is determined based on the synergy of genetic algorithm and transfer matrix method.

Joint Control of Radiated and Surface Waves via Space‐Time Coding Metasurfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A unified space‐time coding metasurface platform enables simultaneous control of radiated and surface‐confined waves across multiple harmonics. Demonstrated functionalities include multi‐frequency beam shaping; surface‐wave excitation, and hybrid multiplexing.

A mechanism for preseismic steady rupture fronts observed in laboratory experiments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
It has been shown that the onset of frictional instability is characterized by a transition from stable, quasi-static rupture growth to unstable, inertially-controlled high-speed rupture.

Atomically Revealing Bulk Point Defect Dynamics in Hydrogen‐Driven γ‐Fe2O3 → Fe3O4 → FeO Transformation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ TEM uncovers the atomic‐scale mechanisms underlying hydrogen‐driven γ‐Fe2O3→Fe3O4→FeO reduction. In γ‐Fe2O3, oxygen vacancies cluster around intrinsic Fe vacancies, leading to nanopore formation, whereas in Fe3O4, vacancy aggregation is suppressed, preserving a dense structure.

Experimental and Numerical Analyses of the Rational Loading Waveform in SHPB Test for Rock Materials

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2018
Aiming at the determination of the rational loading waveform for rock materials, the comparative impact tests under the loadings of rectangular and half-sine stress waves were performed on red sandstone using an Ø50 mm SHPB apparatus.

Effect of stress on ultrasonic pulses in fiber reinforced composites [PDF]

open access: yes
An acoustical-ultrasonic technique was used to demonstrate relationships existing between changes in attenuation of stress waves and tensile stress on an eight ply 0 degree graphite-epoxy fiber reinforced composite. All tests were conducted in the linear
