Dual‐Site Ru Single‐Atoms and RuP Nanoclusters on N, P, and B Co‐Doped Porous Carbon for Efficient Alkaline HER and AEM Water Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ru single atoms and RuP nanoclusters are co‐anchored in N, P, and B co‐doped porous carbon nanospheres via in situ carbonization/phosphidation of a boronate polymer precursor. RuP activates water, while nearby Ru single atoms accelerate H2 formation through H* transfer. The catalyst delivers low overpotential and high durability in alkaline HER and AEM

Electrocatalytic Reduction of CO2 to Ethylene: Catalyst Design and Synchrotron‐Based Characterizations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review evaluates strategies for electrochemical CO2 reduction to ethylene, focusing on copper‐based catalyst design and microenvironment modulation to achieve industrial‐grade performance. By leveraging operando synchrotron‐based characterizations, we provide a multiscale understanding of dynamic structural transformations and key reaction ...

Actuating and Sensing Composites of Liquid Crystal Elastomers and Poly(ionic liquid)s

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic conductive, mechanically tough, flexible, and stretchable filaments of a composite material comprising a liquid crystal elastomer and a poly(ionic liquid) are produced through 3D printing, which exhibit large actuation strain under stimulation and electrical resistance variation in response to deformation or environmental condition changes. Their

Spin‐Dependent Generation of Surface‐Bound Radicals Toward Selective and Long‐Lasting Water Purification

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops a novel atomic engineering strategy to fine‐tune the spin state of α‐Fe2O3 catalysts toward a medium‐spin state, thereby modulating peroxymonosulfate activation and selectively yielding surface‐bound radicals. Compared with free radicals, surface‐bound radicals exhibit moderated oxidation potential, extended lifespan, surface ...

Laser Engineering of HfN‐Based Nanoparticles for Safe NIR‐I Photothermal and X‐ray Enhancing Cancer Therapies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we produced HfN‐based nanoparticles via femtosecond laser ablation in acetone. The nanoparticles exhibit a red‐shifted plasmonic resonance in the NIR‐I window, colloidal stability after coating with polyethyleneglycol, and excellent biocompatibility. The photothermal and X‐ray sensitization therapeutic effects were demonstrated for tumor

Free-surface stretching-sustained intake vortices

Journal of Hydraulic Research, 2009
An experimental investigation of vortices at deep hydraulic intakes revealed two distinct categories of free surface intake vortex. In case 1 when the strain field was strong enough, without an external, quantifiable source of vorticity, minor asymmetries in the near radial intake flow were concentrated and amplified into a vortex core that was purely ...

Altered surface character of stretched condom latex

Contraception, 1992
A new type of imperfection in condom latex, present during moderate stretching, was observed by low magnification scanning electron microscopy. The normally smooth surface of relaxed natural latex was transformed into an accordion-like arrangement of ripples in addition to tears.

Stretched polymer surfaces: Atomic force microscopy measurement of the surface deformation and surface elastic properties of stretched polyethylene

Journal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics, 2001
AbstractThe surface structure and surface mechanical properties of low‐ and high‐density polyethylene were characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM) as the polymers were stretched. The surfaces of both materials roughened as they were stretched. The roughening effect is attributed to deformation of nodular structures, related to bulk spherulites ...

Stretching surface in rotating viscoelastic fluid

Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 2013
The boundary layer flow over a stretching surface in a rotating viscoelastic fluid is considered. By applying a similarity transformation, the governing partial differential equations are converted into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations before being solved numerically by the Keller-box method.
