Stretching Single-Stranded DNA on a Surface

Nano Letters, 2001
A sufficiently long strand of DNA bends and balls up, like any other polymer longer than its persistence length. The ability to stretch a DNA molecule lengthwise on a substrate has garnered a great deal of attention in the past several years. There has been notable success in stretching double-stranded DNA (dsDNA), but it is more difficult to stretch ...

FLUID FILM SPRAYED ON A STRETCHING SURFACE

Chemical Engineering Communications, 1991
A liquid film, due to spraying, is deposited on a stretching surface. The physical problem is governed by a nondimensional parameter α, representing the relative importance of spraying rate to stretching rate. After a similarity transform, the Navier-Stokes equations reduce to a nonlinear ordinary differential equation which is solved by perturbation ...

Stretching a surface in a rotating fluid

ZAMP Zeitschrift fr angewandte Mathematik und Physik, 1988
A surface is stretched in a rotating fluid. The solution to the governing set of nonlinear differential equations depends on a parameter \(\lambda\) which is the ratio of the rotation rate to the stretching rate. Perturbation solutions for small and large \(\lambda\) compare well with exact numerical integration.

Flying head for stretched surface recording disk

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1985
A flying head is described which is suitable for use with stretched surface recording (SSR) disks. Data is presented on the flying height and dynamic stability of the head on SSR disks rotating at 3600 rpm. Stable head flight is observed to within 2 mm of the rims of the disk.

Free Convection on a Vertical Stretching Surface

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 1989

Heat transfer over a stretching surface with variable surface heat flux

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1998
Heat transfer over a stretching surface with variable surface heat flux and uniform surface heat flux subject to injection and suction is examined. The boundary layer equations are transformed to ordinary differential equations, containing an injection parameter I, velocity exponent parameter M, heat flux exponent parameter and Prandtl number .

Stability of Flows Over Stretching Surfaces

Extrusion flows are common in industry and have received considerable attention in the literature. Work in this area began with the experimental results of Trouton [111], who developed an empirical formula relating the applied tension to the stretching rate.
