Downregulation of BST2 Rescues Cochlear Nerve Demyelination in Age‐Related Hearing Loss via Enhancing Schwann Cell Migration

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 1, January 2026.
The illustration indicates that increased BST2 expression in Schwann cells leads to cochlear nerve demyelination, accelerating hearing loss in ARHL. The upregulation of BST2 reduces POU6F1 expression by activating the NF‐κB pathway, which impairs MPZ transcription and Schwann cell migration, ultimately contributing to neural demyelination in ARHL ...

Rapid degeneration and neurochemical plasticity of the lateral geniculate nucleus following lesions of the primary visual cortex in marmoset monkeys

open access: yesCurrent Research in Neurobiology
Lesions of the primary visual cortex (V1) cause retrograde neuronal degeneration, volume loss and neurochemical changes in the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN).

Effects of cannabidiol in alcohol use disorder patients with and without co‐occurring post‐traumatic stress disorder: Tolerability but no evidence for efficacy in two randomized proof‐of‐concept trials

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, Volume 50, Issue 1, January 2026.
Two small placebo‐controlled trials evaluated the effects of cannabidiol (CBD) in patients with alcohol use disorder (AUD), with and without co‐occurring post‐traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). CBD was rapidly absorbed and generally well tolerated in dosages of up to 1200 mg/day. Both treatment groups showed large reductions in drinking.

Real-Time Anisotropic Diffusion using Space-Variant Vision [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Many computer and robot vision applications require multi-scale image analysis. Classically, this has been accomplished through the use of a linear scale-space, which is constructed by convolution of visual input with Gaussian kernels of varying size ...

Astrocytic responses to binge ethanol in male and female mice: An examination of astrocytic glutamate transporters and density changes in the dorsal hippocampus

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, Volume 50, Issue 1, January 2026.
The current work tested the hypothesis that sex differences in alcohol's effects are mediated by astrocytes. Using immunohistochemistry, qRT‐PCR, and ELISAs, we found that nondependent, binge‐like alcohol‐induced increases in hippocampal astrocyte density were more robust in females.

The Role of the Posterior Paraventricular Nucleus of the Thalamus in Food Deprivation‐Induced Heroin‐Seeking Relapse, in Male and Female Rats

open access: yesAddiction Biology, Volume 31, Issue 1, January 2026.
Chemogenetic inhibition of the pPVT resulted in an increase in food‐deprivation‐induced heroin seeking compared to the control group, only in male rats. Chemogenetic excitation of the pPVT resulted in an increase in heroin seeking under food‐deprivation conditions.
