Estimating walking speed, stride length, and stride time using a passive floor based electronic scavenging system

2017 IEEE Sensors Applications Symposium (SAS), 2017
We have developed a floor based personnel detection system to extract gait parameters including walking speed, stride length and stride time, we call it smart carpet. These parameters are validated with a GAITRite Electronic mat. The smart carpet is laid over the GAITRite mat, and subjects walked across the mat for 9 trials each.

A Robust Step Detection and Stride Length Estimation for Pedestrian Dead Reckoning Using a Smartphone

IEEE Sensors Journal, 2020
As an infrastructure-free positioning and navigation method, pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR) is still a research hotspot in the field of indoor localization. Step detection (SD) and stride length estimation (SLE) are two key components of PDR, and it is a challenging problem to apply SD and SLE to different walking patterns.

A Computer Vision-Based System for Stride Length Estimation using a Mobile Phone Camera

Proceedings of the 18th International ACM SIGACCESS Conference on Computers and Accessibility, 2016
Conditions such as Parkinson's disease (PD), a chronic neurodegenerative disorder which severely affects the motor system, will be an increasingly common problem for our growing and aging population. Gait analysis is widely used as a noninvasive method for PD diagnosis and assessment.

A Basic Study on Detection of Movement State in Stride by Artificial Neural Network for Estimating Stride Length of Hemiplegic Gait Using IMU

2019 41st Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2019
In order to perform rehabilitation training for improving motor function, measurement of movements and evaluation of motor function become effective. In our research group, the method of estimating stride length during walking by using an inertial sensor attached to the foot was developed.

Real-Time Stride Length Estimation Using Textile-Based Capacitive Soft Strain Sensors

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement
Stride length estimation (SLE) is a fundamental component of pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR) in indoor navigation and positioning (INP) applications. The knowledge of stride length is crucial for determining the distances covered by pedestrians and estimating their position in real time.

Novel method for stride length estimation with body area network accelerometers

2011 IEEE Topical Conference on Biomedical Wireless Technologies, Networks, and Sensing Systems, 2011
Gait analysis using wireless accelerometers deployed as body area networks can provide valuable information for multiple health-related applications. Within this field, stride length estimation represents a difficult task. In this paper we present a novel method to estimate stride length through the application of the wavelet transform to the signal ...

Estimation of stride length in walking using a single inertial measurement unit attached to the waist

Gait & Posture, 2011
The estimation of spatial and temporal parameters is crucial in the assessment of gait abnormalities. To this purpose, inertial measurement units (IMUs), a combination of miniature angular rate and linear acceleration sensors, have been used in the determination of gait temporal events.

Estimation of Runners' Number of Steps, Stride Length and Speed Transition from Video of a 100-Meter Race

Proceedings of the 1st International Workshop on Multimedia Content Analysis in Sports, 2018
The purpose of this study is sensing movements of 100-m runners from video that is publicly available, for example, Internet broadcasts. Normally, information that can be obtained from a video is limited to the number of steps and average stride length.
