ABSTRACT Introduction and Aim Spatiotemporal and taxonomic sampling bias in biodiversity occurrence data poses critical challenges for robust ecological inference, species distribution models (SDMs), and conservation planning. Despite the exponential growth in global biodiversity records over recent decades, these biases persist.

Habitat and species segregation of Strigiformes in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest
The order Strigiformes contains approximately 250 owl species distributed worldwide, and the majority of them live in forests. Although basic information is available on many owls, few have been studied in-depth; consequently, little is known about the role of vegetation in their lives.

Phylogeny, biogeography, and diversification of barn owls (Aves: Strigiformes) [PDF]
The existence of substantial morphological variation has resulted in the description of numerous subspecies of the cosmopolitan barn owl, Tyto alba. However, preliminary studies have revealed a high degree of genetic variation between Old and New World barn owls, suggesting that the T. alba complex may consist of several species.

Adaptation in the Avian Middle Ear—The Columellar Annular Ligament in Aquatic and Diving Birds
The size of the columellar footplate relative to the oval window shows striking variation across species: it fits snugly within the oval window in, for example owls (left), but considerably smaller than the oval window in diving taxa such as cormorants (right).

Causes of morbidity in wild raptor populations admitted at a wildlife rehabilitation centre in Spain from 1995-2007: a long term retrospective study. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Morbidity studies complement the understanding of hazards to raptors by identifying natural or anthropogenic factors. Descriptive epidemiological studies of wildlife have become an important source of information about hazards to wildlife ...
