The bosonic string on string-size tori from double field theory
We construct the effective action for toroidal compactifications of bosonic string theory from generalized Scherk-Schwarz reductions of double field theory.

String cosmology — Large-field inflation in string theory [PDF]
This is a short review of string cosmology. We wish to connect string-scale physics as closely as possible to observables accessible to current or near-future experiments. Our possible best hope to do so is a description of inflation in string theory. The energy scale of inflation can be as high as that of Grand Unification (GUT). If this is the case,

Introduction to String Field Theory [PDF]
We propose an action for an interacting closed bosonic string. Our formalism relies heavily on ideas discussed by Witten for the open bosonic string. We also obtain the gauge fixed quantum action for the fully interacting open bosonic string.

Biological and biologically‐inspired functional nanostructures with structural, thermal, optical, and sensing applications are reviewed. The role of nanoscale features in biological materials on performance is described, and their blueprints are used for bio‐inspired nanomaterials, synthesized using advanced techniques (i.e., photolithography, bio ...

An Exact Bosonization Rule for c=1 Noncritical String Theory
We construct a string field theory for c=1 noncritical strings using the loop variables as the string field. We show how one can express the nonrelativistic free fermions which describes the theory, in terms of these string fields.Comment: 17 pages, to ...

After more than 50 years from the Veneziano amplitude, the fundamental formulation of string theory (ST) remains elusive. On the one hand, there is the world-sheet formulation that is truly microscopic but which is only valid for infinitesimal string coupling and is highly background dependent.

An ideal implant should mimic native tissues such that it can integrate, sense, heal, and continue to function, i.e., be autonomous. Although early, there are good steps taken in this way, e.g., the development of stimuli‐responsive, self‐powering, self‐actuating, self‐healing, self‐regenerating, and self‐aware implants.

A gauge invariant field theory of the bosonic string is formulated following Siegel, Banks and Peskin, and Feigin and Fuks. The free field action is constructed from the Virasoro operators assuming only locality. The propagator is very regular at short distance.

String field theory and the fuzzy sphere
We use boundary string field theory to study open string tachyon condensation on a three-sphere closed string background. We consider the closed string background described by $SU(2)_k$ WZW model in the limit of large $k$. We compute the exact tachyon potential and analyse the decay modes.
