String Physics and Black Holes [PDF]

open access: greenNuclear Physics B - Proceedings Supplements, 1995
In these lectures we review the quantum physics of large Schwarzschild black holes. Hawking's information paradox, the theory of the stretched horizon and the principle of black hole complementarity are covered.

Rindler Physics on the String Worldsheet [PDF]

open access: hybridPhysical Review Letters, 2021
We construct the tensionless limit of bosonic string theory in terms of a family of worldsheets with increasing acceleration and show that the null string emerges in the limit of infinite acceleration when the Rindler horizon is hit. We discover a novel phenomenon we call null string complementarity, which gives two distinct observer-dependent pictures

Physics from open string wavefunctions [PDF]

open access: hybridProceedings of European Physical Society Europhysics Conference on High Energy Physics — PoS(EPS-HEP 2009), 2010
D-branes provide a simple framework for embedding semi-realistic chiral gauge theories within String Theory. Some of these stringy setups admit a higher dimensional field theory description in terms of open string wavefunctions. These play a role analogous to vertex operators in CFT, allowing to compute 4d low energy observables in terms of overlap ...

String Physics at Low Energies [PDF]

open access: bronzeProgress of Theoretical Physics Supplement, 2003
The recent understanding of string theory opens the possibility that the string scale can be as low as a few TeV. The apparent weakness of gravitational interactions can then be accounted by the existence of large internal dimensions, in the submillimeter region.

A Short Introduction to Bit-String Physics [PDF]

open access: green, 1997
This paper starts with a personal memoir of how some significant ideas arose and events took place during the period from 1972, when I first encountered Ted Bastin, to 1979, when I proposed the foundation of ANPA. I then discuss program universe, the fine structure paper and its rejection, the quantitative results up to ANPA 17 and take a new look at ...

String Theory - From Physics to Metaphysics [PDF]

open access: green, 2006
Currently, string theory represents the only advanced approach to a unification of all interactions, including gravity. In spite of the more than thirty years of its existence it did not make any empirically testable predictions.

Effective string amplitudes for hadronic physics [PDF]

open access: greenNuclear Physics B, 1993
We propose using the general structure and properties of conformal field theory amplitudes, in particular those defined on surfaces with boundaries, to explore effective string theory amplitudes for some hadronic processes. Two examples are considered to illustrate the approach.
