We summarize recent progress in the understanding of minimal string theory, focusing on the worldsheet description of physical operators and D-branes. We review how a geometric interpretation of minimal string theory emerges naturally from the study of ...

Particle physicists have spent much of this century grappling with one basic question in various forms: what are the fundamental degrees of freedom needed to describe nature, and what are the laws that govern their dynamics? First molecules, then atoms, then “elementary particles” such as protons and neutrons all have been revealed to be composite ...

String theory of supertubes [PDF]
Abstract String theory on AdS 3 backgrounds arises as an IR limit of Little String Theory on NS5-branes. A wide variety of holographic RG flows from the fivebrane theory in the UV to (orbifolds of) AdS 3 in the IR is amenable to exact treatment in worldsheet string theory as a class of null-gauged WZW models.

The Effective Theory of Strings [PDF]
We show that the Nambu-Goto string, and its higher dimensional generalizations, can be quantized, in the sense of an effective theory, in any dimension of the target space. The crucial point is to consider expansions around classical string configurations.

SYM Description of PP-wave String Interactions: Singlet Sector and Arbitrary Impurities [PDF]
We study string interactions among string states with arbitrary impurities in the Type IIB plane wave background using string field theory. We reproduce all string amplitudes from gauge theory by computing matrix elements of the dilatation operator in a ...

SO(32) Spinors of Type I and Other Solitons on Brane-Antibrane Pair [PDF]
We construct the SO(32) spinor state in weakly coupled type I string theory as a kink solution of the tachyon field on the D-string - anti-D-string pair and calculate its mass.
