The microbiome of a striped dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba) stranded in Portugal

Research in Microbiology, 2017
Infectious diseases with epizootic consequences have not been fully studied in marine mammals. Presently, the unprecedented depth of sequencing, made available by high-throughput approaches, allows detailed comparisons of the microbiome in health and disease. This is the first report of the striped dolphin microbiome in different body sites.

Systemic Herpesvirus and Morbillivirus Co-Infection in a Striped Dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba)

Journal of Comparative Pathology, 2012
During 2007 a dolphin morbillivirus epizootic affected the western Mediterranean and several striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba) stranded on the Catalonian coasts. One of those animals had severe lymphoid depletion, necrosis and syncytial formation in lymph nodes and spleen, with large basophilic nuclear inclusions compatible with herpesvirus ...

Two neurotropic pathogens of concern for striped dolphins

Veterinary Record, 2020
Following the first isolation of Brucella ceti from a bottlenose dolphin ( Tursiops truncatus ) fetus,1 several cases of B ceti infection were reported among free-ranging cetaceans worldwide.2 These included cases in the Mediterranean sea, where B ceti infection was first described in 2009.3 As with other Brucella genus members, B ceti displays a ...

Audiogram of a striped dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba)

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2003
The underwater hearing sensitivity of a striped dolphin was measured in a pool using standard psycho-acoustic techniques. The go/no-go response paradigm and up–down staircase psychometric method were used. Auditory sensitivity was measured by using 12 narrow-band frequency-modulated signals having center frequencies between 0.5 and 160 kHz.
