Revisions to the Classification, Nomenclature, and Diversity of Eukaryotes
Abstract This revision of the classification of eukaryotes follows that of Adl et al., 2012 [J. Euk. Microbiol. 59(5)] and retains an emphasis on protists. Changes since have improved the resolution of many nodes in phylogenetic analyses. For some clades even families are being clearly resolved.

Jellyfish blooms restructure plankton dynamics and trophic linkages in coastal waters
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Jellyfish blooms are increasing globally in frequency and intensity, introducing complex ecological interactions, yet the mechanisms by which they alter ecosystem structure remain poorly characterized due to a lack of sustained field observations.

Crucially, the framework we present here offers an approach for identifying the, to date, unknown locations of polyp beds; a key parameter in enhancing our capacity to accurately predict the occurrence of jellyfish blooms. Accordingly, this framework represents a key decision‐support tool for mitigating the socio‐economic impacts of bloom formation ...

In Vitro Cestocidal Activity of Thymol on Mesocestoides corti Tetrathyridia and Adult Worms
Nothing is known about the possible effect of thymol or other compounds of essential oils against the adult worms of cestodes. The aim of the present work was to determine in vitro cestodicidal activity of thymol against Mesocestoides corti adult worms. Moreover, the in vitro effect on tetrathyridia was also demonstrated.

The evolution of reproduction in Ediacaran–Cambrian metazoans
ABSTRACT The evolution of reproductive style is a fundamental aspect of metazoan life history but has not been explored holistically through the Ediacaran–Cambrian rise of metazoans. Recent molecular clock analyses based on only unequivocal metazoan fossil calibrations suggest that Porifera were present by at least 590 million years ago (Ma), all major

Strobilation at constant temperature (Experiment F).
Previously, polyps were acclimated to a constant temperature (17.5, 19, 20 and 21°C) for 35 days without iodine in the water. Accumulate strobilation percentage of polyps and proportion of polyps that died without strobilating after 15 days of adding ...

ABSTRACT Gene and protein expression analyses are powerful tools to investigate the responses of cnidarians to stress, providing information on both genetic and functional variation and capturing dynamic shifts in organismal physiology. As the use of high throughput sequencing to understand responses of cnidarians to stressors is still relatively new ...

Innovating Environmentally Sustainable Materials Platforms by Harnessing Coastal Marine Tunicates
This interdisciplinary perspective aims to stimulate conversation and discussion on one of the most dominant invasive organisms in our coastal ecosystems, benthic tunicates. We propose the utilization of tunicate biomass to meet the growing demand for sustainable materials while simultaneously reducing the biofouling caused by invasive tunicates ...
