Scavenging the two-stroke engine

Progress in Energy and Combustion Science, 1990
Abstract The scavenging process is the most important factor controlling the efficiency and performance characteristics of a two-stroke-cycle engine. This article reviews and assesses experimental and theoretical methods, which have been applied during the past three decades, to evaluate the success of the scavenging process.

Total Engine Friction in Four Stroke S.I. Motorcycle Engine

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1988
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Many papers are written on the frictional loss of each component in an engine, such as piston, crankshaft or bearings, but few papers describe on the total engine friction in detail. In this paper, the total engine friction is analyzed using the engine friction data of 145 HONDA mass produced motorcycle in-line ...

The Two-Stroke Rotary Engine

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1998
<div class="htmlview paragraph">An innovative rotary engine uses a rotor that executes pendulum-like oscillatory rotation. This is converted into uniform rotation of the drive shaft by a simple mechanism. The engine also employs parameter resonance. The new design is compact and lightweight.

Two-stroke hydrogen injection engine

International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 1979
Some of the advantages of the two-stroke hydrogen injection engine developed by Musashi Institute of Technology are given. Flashbacks never occur. Higher output than with a gasoline engine is obtainable because the amount of mixture is larger, since only air is introduced.

Two-Stroke S.I. Engine Competitive to Four-Stroke Engine in Terms of the Exhaust Emission

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1994
<div class="htmlview paragraph">A model engine with disintegrated working cycle was build. Its operation is not autonomous; compression of the working air is performed separately outside the engine by the compressed-air line supply. Pre-compressed charge together with the injected fuel is introduced in the combustion chamber.

Expansion Engine - 4 strokes

This work introduces a novel expansion engine that integrates heat exchange with thermal energy storage and operates on a Quasi-Carnot cycle, combining quasi-isothermal and quasi-adiabatic processes. Unlike conventional combustion, Stirling, or Organic Rankine systems, the proposed design minimizes entropy generation and improves efficiency by using ...

Two-stroke/four-stroke multicylinder gasoline engine for downsizing applications

MTZ worldwide, 2009
Following the great public interest aroused by the „2/4-sight“ concept and the successful completion of the fundamental investigations on the testbed, Ricardo is now starting work on the „2/4-car“ project. This project aims to prove the combinability of two- and four-stroke operation in a single internal combustion engine within a demonstrator vehicle.

The Rand-Cam Engine: A Pistonless Four Stroke Engine

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1994
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The Rand-Cam engine is a positive displacement machine, operating on a four stroke cycle, which consists of a rotor with multiple axial vanes forming combustion chambers as the rotor and vanes rotate in a cam shaped housing.
