Features of an Atkinson Two-Stroke Engine

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1994
<div class="htmlview paragraph">A two-stroke Atkinson cycle engine is described. The engine has uniflow stratified mixture scavenging with a variably phased spherical rotary valve in the cylinder head and exhaust ports in the cylinder wall. These features combined in this configuration result in reduced fuel consumption, higher specific power ...

Friction Analysis of a Two Stroke Engine

2015
Internal combustion engines continue to be the vehicles main propulsion system. For all engines, low friction levels are extremely important for the overall efficiency. Components and sub-systems where friction reduction can take place are: crankshaft main bearings, conrod bearings, cam shaft bearings, balancer shafts (if present), auxiliary drives ...

Expansion Engine - 4 strokes

This work introduces a novel expansion engine that integrates heat exchange with thermal energy storage and operates on a Quasi-Carnot cycle, combining quasi-isothermal and quasi-adiabatic processes. Unlike conventional combustion, Stirling, or Organic Rankine systems, the proposed design minimizes entropy generation and improves efficiency by using ...

Exhaust Systems of Two-Stroke Engines

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, 1938
Crankcase-scavenge two-stroke engines have always been fitted with a large expansion chamber immediately outside the exhaust ports, but this is by no means essential, as such engines will operate very satisfactorily with a plain exhaust pipe. The length of this pipe is most important and has a controlling influence on the scavenging of the cylinder ...

Camshaft Modification for Conversion of Four-Stroke Engines To Six-Stroke Engines

In this study, camshaft modification was carried out to convert a four-stroke engine into a six-stroke engine. For this purpose, six-stroke engine strategies in the literature were examined in detail. As a result of the examination, a free-stroke strategy without exhaust heat recovery was preferred.
