An overview of NASA intermittent combustion engine research [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper overviews the current program, whose objective is to establish the generic technology base for advanced aircraft I.C. engines of the early 1990's and beyond. The major emphasis of this paper is on development of the past two years.

A Variable-Stroke Engine

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1988
A new type of variable-stroke engine, or compressor, is presented in this paper. The stroke is adjusted by changing the length of the ground link using an auxiliary mechanism. Adjusting the ground link, changes the rotation angle and the effective length of the connecting rod, which in turn controls the pumping volume of the engine.

Four-Stroke Marine Engines

2020
The internal combustion engines operating in the four-stroke cycle are most widely used on all types vessels with different purpose. Mostly, the vessels use medium and high-speed engines of this type, however, a number of Asian manufacturers produce low-speed four-stroke engines which are capable to operate with direct power transmission to the ...

Comparison of Four Stroke MotoGP Engines

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2004
This paper compares different engine solutions for the FIM MotoGP World Championship. Starting from the general guidelines given in a previous paper, in this study the specific features of each engine architecture (3 and 4 in line, V4, V5 and V6) are considered.

An engineering contribution to stroke research

Electronics and Power, 1976
In a recently opened hospital unit on the outskirts of Bristol, some of the problems of the stroke victim are being tackled by a multidisciplinary team that includes electronics engineers. This article describes some of the engineering aspects of the research programme, which makes extensive use of an online digital computer in a widely based ...

Two-Stroke S.I. Engine Competitive to Four-Stroke Engine in Terms of the Exhaust Emission

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1994
A model engine with disintegrated working cycle was built. Its operation is not autonomous; compression of the working air is performed separately outside the engine by the compressed-air line supply. Pre-compressed charge together with the injected fuel is introduced in the combustion chamber.
