Using GPT‐4 to Augment Imbalanced Data for Automatic Scoring

open access: yesJournal of Educational Measurement, Volume 62, Issue 4, Page 959-995, Winter 2025.
Abstract Machine learning‐based automatic scoring faces challenges with imbalanced student responses across scoring categories. To address this, we introduce a novel text data augmentation framework that leverages GPT‐4, a generative large language model specifically tailored for imbalanced datasets in automatic scoring.

The visual, the textual, and the one‐dimensional: An exploration of the visual elements of bibliographic classification schemes

open access: yesJournal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, Volume 76, Issue 10, Page 1411-1427, October 2025.
Abstract Classification schemes are a key way of organizing bibliographic knowledge, yet the way that classification schemes communicate their information to classifiers receives little attention. This article takes a novel approach by exploring the visual aspects contained within classification schemes.

Application of Differential Subordinations to the Arithmetic–Geometric Means by Using an Operator

open access: yesJournal of Mathematics, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
This study investigates differential subordination involving arithmetic and geometric mean approaches associated with a previously introduced operator. While earlier studies considered cases where the dominant function was convex or linear, the present work extends these results by examining differential subordinations for specific classes of convex ...

Admissible classes of analytic functions associated with generalized Struve functions

open access: yes, 2017
In the present paper, by considering suitable classes of admissible functions we investigate some strong differential subordination as well as superordination results for analytic functions associated with normalized form of the generalized Struve ...

Sign language in d/deaf students' spoken/written language development: A research synthesis and meta‐analysis of cross‐linguistic correlation coefficients

open access: yesReview of Education, Volume 12, Issue 3, December 2024.
Abstract This paper presents the first systematic review and meta‐analysis on cross‐linguistic correlations between sign language and spoken/written language competences in bilingual d/Deaf learners. A total of 202 effect sizes were identified based on 70 independent samples that appeared in 52 studies from 1981 to 2023 (N = 3570).

Testing the Relationship of Linguistic Complexity to Second Language Learners’ Comparative Judgment on Text Difficulty

open access: yesLanguage Learning, Volume 74, Issue 3, Page 672-706, September 2024.
Abstract This study examined the relationship of linguistic complexity, captured using a set of lexical richness, syntactic complexity, and discoursal complexity indices, to second language (L2) learners’ perception of text difficulty, captured using L2 raters’ comparative judgment on text comprehensibility and reading speed. Testing materials were 180

On some differential sandwich theorems using an extended generalized S˘al˘agean operator and extended Ruscheweyh operator

open access: yes, 2015
: In this work we define a new operator using the extended generalized Sălăgean operator and extended Ruscheweyh operator. Denote by $DR^{m,n}_{\lambda}$ the Hadamard product of the extended generalized Sălăgean operator $D^{m}_{\lambda}$ and extended ...

Referential Cohesion, Ambiguity, Vagueness and Generality in Parliamentary Debate*

open access: yesStudia Linguistica, Volume 78, Issue 1, Page 128-155, April 2024.
Abstract Political discourse has been characterised as being ‘vague’ and ‘ambiguous’. It is argued that politicians tend to use generic and unspecific words in order to avoid explicit commitment (McGee 2018). Although this situation may describe discourse genres such as political interviews and election debates, it is unclear that it can be applied to ...

An Application of the Subordination Chains [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
MSC 2010: 30C45, 30A20, 34A30The notion of differential superordination was introduced in [4] by S.S. Miller and P.T. Mocanu as a dual concept of differential subordination [3] and was developed in [5]. The notion of strong differential subordination was
