Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Characterizations of Graphs Having Large Proper Connection Numbers
Let G be an edge-colored connected graph. A path P is a proper path in G if no two adjacent edges of P are colored the same. If P is a proper u − v path of length d(u, v), then P is a proper u − v geodesic. An edge coloring c is a proper-path coloring of

The edge computing paradigm, allowing the location of network services close to end users, defines new network scenarios. One of them considers the existence of micro data centers, with reduced resources but located closer to service requesters, to ...

Edge states in Open Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg Chains
In this letter we report our results in investigating edge effects of open antiferromagnetic Heisenberg spin chains with spin magnitudes $S=1/2, 1,3/2,2$ using the density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method initiated by White.

This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Precise Upper Bound for the Strong Edge Chromatic Number of Sparse Planar Graphs
We prove that every planar graph with maximum degree ∆ is strong edge (2∆−1)-colorable if its girth is at least 40+1. The bound 2∆−1 is reached at any graph that has two adjacent vertices of degree ∆.

A Novel Hybrid Edge Detection Method for Polarimetric SAR Images
The edge detection plays an important role in post-processing of PolSAR images. It is still a great challenge for extracting all the edge features and suppress speckle noises, especially when weak/strong edges appear simultaneously outside and within ...

Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
