Probing Quantum Gravity through Strong Gravitational Lensing

open access: yes, 2017
We report the use of Einstein rings to reveal the quantized and dynamical states of space-time in a region of impressed gravitational field as predicted by the Nexus Paradigm of quantum gravity. This in turn reveals the orbital speeds of objects found therein and the radius of curvature of the quantized space-time.

Heritage language learners' language availability and choice: A case study of primary school Persian learners in Australia

open access: yesForeign Language Annals, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigates the factors influencing Persian language learning among heritage language learners in Sydney, Australia, with a particular focus on how formal and informal settings shape language choice and availability. The research employs a qualitative case study approach, incorporating data from student focus groups, semi ...

Inferring Properties of Dark Galactic Halos Using Strongly Lensed Gravitational Waves

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Gravitational waves (GWs) can be deflected, similarly to electromagnetic (EM) waves, by massive objects through the phenomenon of gravitational lensing .

An Economic Analysis of Difficulty Adjustment Algorithms in Proof‐of‐Work Blockchain Systems

open access: yesInternational Economic Review, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We study the stability of cryptocurrency systems through difficulty adjustment. Bitcoin's difficulty adjustment algorithm (DAA) exhibits instability when the reward elasticity of the hash rate is high, implying that a sharp price reduction could disrupt the current Bitcoin system.

Understanding Atrial Fibrillation Complexity Through the Lens of Turbulence Dynamics: Implications for Treatment Strategies

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia encountered in clinical practice. Its incidence increases significantly with age and has become a major global public health issue. Although research into the mechanisms of AF has spanned over a century‐ranging from the reentry theory to the rotor hypothesis‐none of these

Model-independent H0 within FLRW: Joint Constraints from GWTC-3 Standard Sirens and Strong Lensing Time Delays

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We use 47 gravitational-wave (GW) standard sirens from the third Gravitational-Wave Transient Catalog to calibrate distances in the strong gravitational lensing (SGL) system RXJ1131-1231 and constrain the Hubble constant ( H _0 ) via the distance sum ...

Foreground biases in strong gravitational lensing

open access: yesJournal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics
Abstract Strong gravitational lensing is a competitive tool to probe the dark matter and energy content of the Universe. However, significant uncertainties can arise from the choice of lens model, and in particular the parameterisation of the line of sight.

Pan‐Europe Revisited: Inter‐War Debates and the EU's Pursuit of Geopolitical Power

open access: yesJCMS: Journal of Common Market Studies, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The European Union's (EU) transformation from a peace project to an assertive geopolitical actor reflects enduring tensions in integration theory dating back to the inter‐war period. This paper develops a comparative framework distinguishing territorial integration logic, which emphasises bounded political communities and collective defence ...

Cosmology using Strong Gravitational Lensing

open access: yes
The light we observe from distant astrophysical objects including supernovae and quasars allows us to determine large distances in terms of a cosmological model. Despite the success of the standard cosmological model in fitting the data, there remains no underlying explanation for the accelerated expansion and dark matter.

Tending to the Particular: Navigating Tensions Around Principles of Alternativity Through an Ethics of Care

open access: yesJournal of Management Studies, EarlyView.
Abstract Alternative organizations must continuously address conflicts that emerge regarding diverging prioritizations and interpretations of autonomy, solidarity, and responsibility. We explore how tensions around alternative moral principles can be navigated through relational processes that attune to others' needs, emotions, and concerns.
