Strong law of large number for branching hunt processes [PDF]

open access: yesActa Mathematica Sinica, English Series, 2015
In this paper we prove that, under certain conditions, a strong law of large number holds for a class of branching particle systems $X$ corresponding to the parameters $(Y, , )$, where $Y$ is a Hunt process and $ $ is the generating function for the offspring.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

High‐Concentration Mesogen‐Assisted Exfoliation of Low‐Dimensional Nanomaterials for Achieving Ultralow‐Temperature Actuations of Liquid Crystal Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Most matter is nominally frozen in the polar regions or space, and liquid crystal materials are no exception. Consequently, soft actuators, including liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs), are inoperative under such extreme cold in response to stimuli, as their motion relies on mechanical deformation.

Two laws of large numbers for sublinear expectations

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, we consider the sublinear expectation on bounded random vari- ables. With the notion of uncorrelatedness for random variables under the sublinear expectation, a weak law of large numbers is obtained.

Unveiling Phonon Contributions to Thermal Conductivity and the Applicability of the Wiedemann—Franz Law in Ruthenium and Tungsten Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thermal transport in Ru and W thin films is studied using steady‐state thermoreflectance, ultrafast pump–probe spectroscopy, infrared‐visible spectroscopy, and computations. Significant Lorenz number deviations reveal strong phonon contributions, reaching 45% in Ru and 62% in W.

Integrability conditions on coboundary and transfer function for limit theorems

open access: yes, 2015
For a measure preserving automorphism $T$ of a probability space, we provide conditions on the tail function of $g\colon\Omega\to\mathbb R$ and $g-g\circ T$ which guarantee limit theorems among the weak invariance principle, Marcinkievicz-Zygmund strong ...

Ionic Control of Microstructure and Lubrication in Charged, Physically Cross‐Linked Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, charged, physically cross‐linked poly(methacrylamide‐co‐methacrylic acid) hydrogels stabilized by a short‐range attractive, long‐range repulsive potential is investigated. This work uncovers how salt addition alters not only swelling, but also the microstructure and dynamics, near‐surface stiffness and charge, and ultimately, its lubricity. Salts

MARCINKIEWICZ-TYPE STRONG LAW OF LARGE NUMBERS FOR DOUBLE ARRAYS OF NEGATIVELY DEPENDENT RANDOM VARIABLES [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sciences, Islamic Republic of Iran, 2002
In the following work we present a proof for the strong law of large numbers for pairwise negatively dependent random variables which relaxes the usual assumption of pairwise independence.

Biomimetic Iridescent Skin: Robust Prototissues Spontaneously Assembled from Photonic Protocells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Uniform nanoparticles are induced to form arrays (photonic crystals) in the cores of biopolymer capsules, endowing these ‘protocells’ with structural color. These protocells are then assembled into large self‐standing objects, i.e., prototissues, with robust mechanical properties as well as iridescent optical properties.
