Note on strongly regular near-rings [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Edinburgh Mathematical Society, 1986
Let S be a semigroup. An element a of S is called right (resp. left) regular if a=a2x (resp. a=xa2) for some x∈S. If a is regular and right (resp. left) regular, a is called strongly right (resp. left) regular. As is well known, if a is strongly regular (i.e., right and left regular) then it is regular, more precisely, there exists uniquely an element ...

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Beyond Regular Semigroups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The topic of this thesis is the class of weakly U-abundant semigroups. This class is very wide, containing inverse, orthodox, regular, ample, adequate, quasi-adequate, concordant, abundant, restriction, Ehresmann and weakly abundant semigroups.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Strongly Regular Graphs with Parameters (4m4, 2m4 + m2, m4 + m2, m4 + m2) Exist for All m>1 [PDF]

open access: yes
Using results on Hadamard difference sets, we construct regular graphical Hadamard matrices of negative type of order 4m4 for every positive integer m. If m > 1, such a Hadamard matrix is equivalent to a strongly regular graph with parameters (4m4, 2m4 ...

On Strongly Regular Near Rings

open access: yes, 2016
As the name suggests,a near-ring is a generalized ring more precisely the commutativity of addition is not required and just one of the distributive laws is postulated. Many parts of the well established theory of rings were transferred to near-rings ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

On strongly n-regular and strongly regular rings

open access: yes, 2000
Let R be an associative ring with identity 1 (not equal to) 0. An element x E R is said to be right (or left) regular if there exists yin R such that x² y = x (or y.x² = x). If x is both left and right regular, then it is said to be strongly regular. The

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.
