Angiostrongylus chabaudi Biocca, 1957: a new parasite for domestic cats? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background Natural infection with a species of Angiostrongylus has been reported only once in wildcats from central Italy by Biocca in 1957. The causative species of this infection was identified as Angiostrongylus chabaudi.

Hurdles in the evolutionary epidemiology of Angiostrongylus cantonensis: Pseudogenes, incongruence between taxonomy and DNA sequence variants, and cryptic lineages [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Angiostrongylus cantonensis, the rat lungworm, is a zoonotic pathogen that is one of the leading causes of eosinophilic meningitis worldwide. This parasite is regarded as an emerging pathogen with a global range expansion out of southeastern Asia post ...

Parasite–microbiota interactions potentially affect intestinal communities in wild mammals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
1. Detecting interaction between species is notoriously difficult, and disentangling species associations in host-related gut communities is especially challenging.

Observations on relationships between infective juveniles of bovine lungworm, Dictyocaulus viviparus (Nematoda: Strongylida) and the fungi, Pilobolus kleinii and P. crystallinus (Zygomycotina: Zygomycetes)

open access: yesParasitology, 1981
SUMMARYInfective 3rd-stage larvae of Dictyocaulus viviparus were filmed whilst climbing sporangiophores of the coprophilous fungus, Pilobolus and invading sporangia in numbers up to about 50, shortly before the sporangia were explosively discharged. Like the sporangiophores of Pilobolus the nematodes reacted positively towards light.

Flatworms have lost the right open reading frame kinase 3 gene during evolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
All multicellular organisms studied to date have three right open reading frame kinase genes (designated riok-1, riok-2 and riok-3). Current evidence indicates that riok-1 and riok-2 have essential roles in ribosome biosynthesis, and that the riok-3 gene

The relationships between faecal egg counts and gut microbial composition in UK Thoroughbreds infected by cyathostomins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A growing body of evidence, particularly in humans and rodents, supports the existence of a complex network of interactions occurring between gastrointestinal (GI) helminth parasites and the gut commensal bacteria, with substantial effects on both host ...
