Hyper-variable regions in 18S rDNA of Strongyloides spp. as markers for species-specific diagnosis

Parasitology Research, 2008
Four hyper-variable regions (HVR-I to -IV) found in 18S ribosomal DNA sequences were compared among 34 isolates of 15 species of the genus Strongyloides to evaluate their diagnostic value. HVR-I to -III were short, and plural species exhibit the same nucleotide arrangement.

A Pilot Study for the Characterization of Bacillus spp. and Analysis of Possible B. thuringiensis/Strongyloides stercoralis Correlation

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Differentiating between Bacillus species is relevant in human medicine. Bacillus thuringiensis toxins might be effective against Strongyloides stercoralis, a nematode causing relevant human morbidity. Our first objective was to evaluate genomic and MALDI-TOF identification methods for B. thuringiensis. Our secondary objective was to evaluate a possible

Application of real-time PCR for the detection of Strongyloides spp. in clinical samples in a reference center in Spain

Acta Tropica, 2015
Strongyloidiasis is one of the major intestinal helminthic infections in humans with a worldwide distribution, affecting especially tropical and subtropical regions. This disease can occur without any symptoms or as a potentially fatal hyperinfection or disseminated infection. Definitive diagnosis of Strongyloides stercoralis infection relies mainly on

Molecular identification of the causative agent of human strongyloidiasis acquired in Tanzania: Dispersal and diversity of Strongyloides spp. and their hosts

Parasitology International, 2010
In order to identify the causative agent of imported strongyloidiasis found in a Japanese mammalogist, who participated in a field survey in Tanzania, the hyper-variable region IV (HVR-IV) of 18S ribosomal DNA and partial mitochondrial cytochrome c-oxidase subunit 1 gene (cox1) were analyzed and compared with Strongyloides fuelleborni collected from ...

Ecological Implications for Flying Squirrels (Glaucomys spp.) of Effects of Temperature on the In Vitro Development and Behavior of Strongyloides robustus

American Midland Naturalist, 1994
-The effects of temperature on in vitro egg-hatching success, juvenile survival, development and behavior of Strongyloides robustus were examined. As culture temperatures declined (25-10 C), both egg hatching and rate of larval development decreased. Hatching occurred as low as 10 C.

Characterising different wild isolates of human and animal parasitic Strongyloides spp. and analysis of poly(UG)-tailed RNAs in Pristionchus pacificus and Strongyloides spp.

The parasitic nematode Strongyloides stercoralis is the main causative agent of human strongyloidiasis, a neglected tropical disease. S. stercoralis can undergo three different life cycles. Non-human primates and dogs have been described as possible sources for zoonotic infections of humans. Different isolates of S.
