Fecal Microbiota Transplantation Modulates Th17/Treg Balance via JAK/STAT Pathway in ARDS Rats

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) alleviates lung and intestinal injury in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‐induced acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in rats. This study demonstrates that FMT restores the balance between Th17 and Treg cells, inhibits the JAK/STAT pathway, and modulates cytokine levels, reducing inflammation and lung damage. These

Performance-based earthquake engineering methodology for seismic analysis of nuclear cable tray system

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2021
The Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research (PEER) Center has been developing a performance-based earthquake engineering (PBEE) methodology, which is based on explicit determination of performance, e.g., monetary losses, in a probabilistic manner where ...

Microphysiological Glomerular Filtration Barriers: Current Insights, Innovations, and Future Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) is the first step of blood filtration by the kidneys. The concerning increase of kidney diseases makes the development of new models essential. In this context, microphysiological glomerular filtration barriers focus on closely reproducing the physiological architecture of the in vivo GFB: podocytes, glomerular ...

Improved contact prediction in proteins: Using pseudolikelihoods to infer Potts models

open access: yes, 2013
Spatially proximate amino acids in a protein tend to coevolve. A protein's three-dimensional (3D) structure hence leaves an echo of correlations in the evolutionary record.

Relative Displacement Method for Track-Structure Interaction

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
The track-structure interaction effects are usually analysed with conventional FEM programs, where it is difficult to implement the complex track-structure connection behaviour, which is nonlinear, elastic-plastic and depends on the vertical load.

Investigation of the Uniformity of Gel Shrinkage by Imaging Tracer Particles Using X‐Ray Microtomography

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 13, July 2025.
A novel method for tracking structural changes in gels using widely accessible microcomputed tomography is presented and validated for various hydro‐, alco‐, and aerogels. The core idea of the method is to track positions of micrometer‐sized tracer particles entrapped in the gel and relate them to the density of the gel network.

Hydrogel‐Based Capacitive Sensor Model for Ammonium Monitoring in Aquaculture

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Traditional techniques for monitoring aquaculture water quality, particularly ammonium levels, harm fish. This work presents a novel capacitive sensor with an ionic hydrogel transducer to monitor ammonium concentration in real time based on the ammonium‐induced hydrogel dissociation and osmotic pressure. Monitoring aquaculture water quality, especially
