Brine, englacial structure and basal properties near the terminus of McMurdo Ice Shelf, Antarctica

open access: yesAnnals of Glaciology, 2017
We collected ~1300 km of ground-penetrating radar profiles over McMurdo Ice Shelf, Antarctica, using frequencies between 40 and 400 MHz to determine extent, continuity and depth to the brine.

Late Holocene environmental history of Dojran, Macedonia: Investigating the interplay of imperial dynamics and climatic change

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study presents a high‐resolution, multi‐proxy reconstruction of environmental and land‐use change from Lake Dojran over historical times (last 2500 years), combining pollen, biomarkers, radiocarbon dating, Ottoman taxation records and other historical data.

Experimental Investigation of Moisture Movement During Freeze–Thaw Cycles and Its Effect on Physical Rock Weathering in Low‐Porosity Alpine Limestone

open access: yesPermafrost and Periglacial Processes, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The progressive weakening of alpine rockwalls through subcritical cracking, driven by repeated low‐magnitude stress processes, plays a key role in alpine rock weathering. Laboratory studies using acoustic emission (AE) monitoring have shown that thermal stresses from freeze–thaw cycling induce crack propagation, with recent work highlighting ...

Recent structural evolution of Forni Glacier tongue (Ortles-Cevedale Group, Central Italian Alps)

open access: yesJournal of Maps, 2017
Structural glaciology yields important details about the evolution of glacier dynamics in response to climate change. The maps provided here document the occurrence and evolution of brittle and ductile structures on the tongue of Forni Glacier, Ortles ...

A Statistical‐Process Hybridized Approach to Modeling Permafrost Distribution in a Boreal Wetland Ecosystem, Whatì, NT, Canada

open access: yesPermafrost and Periglacial Processes, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT High‐resolution mapping of permafrost in ecologically and topographically complex landscapes remains a major challenge. Existing models of permafrost extent often rely on equilibrium assumptions, which can misrepresent conditions in regions where permafrost persists largely due to ecosystem structure.

Deciphering Freeze–Thaw Dynamics In Rockwalls: A Novel Approach for High Accuracy Regional‐Scale Modeling

open access: yesPermafrost and Periglacial Processes, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Using a large and novel array of instruments on five rockwalls in northern Gaspesia, their respective surface energy balances were calculated and their thermal regimes were measured and modeled to depths exceeding the seasonal frost penetration.

Capturing the Multi‐Decadal Evolution of Glacier–Permafrost Interactions in a High‐Alpine Environment (Ritord, Western Swiss Alps)

open access: yesPermafrost and Periglacial Processes, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the multi‐decadal evolution of a glacier forefield under permafrost conditions in the Combins Massif (western Swiss Alps). A multi‐method approach based on historical and recent datasets is used to analyze its landform components.

Structural characteristics of flow units in Svalbard valley glaciers and their utility for investigating ice-dynamic changes over centennial timescales

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology
The aim of this paper is to characterise the internal structures and ice-flow history of representative valley glaciers in Svalbard and infer from them dynamic changes over centennial timescales.

Refining the timing of Middle Pleistocene (MIS 12 to MIS 6) ice advances into northern central Europe: sedimentological analysis and single‐grain luminescence dating of glaciotectonic complexes and tunnel‐valley fills

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
We summarize the current state of knowledge on the age of the Middle Pleistocene ice advances into northern central Europe and provide 25 new single‐grain feldspar luminescence ages of Elsterian and Saalian glacigenic sediments to constrain the age of the ice advances and their tentative correlation with marine isotope stages/substages.

Stable isotope (δD–δ¹⁸O) relationships of ice facies and glaciological structures within the mid-latitude maritime Fox Glacier, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Relationships between stable isotopes (δD–δ¹⁸O), ice facies and glacier structures have hitherto gone untested in the mid-latitude maritime glaciers of the Southern Hemisphere. Here, we present δD–δ¹⁸O values as part of a broader study of the structural glaciology of Fox Glacier, New Zealand. We analyzed 94 samples of δD–δ¹⁸O from a range of ice facies
