Controlled seismic behaviour of masonry-infilled steel frames

open access: yesGrađevinar, 2016
Whether used as a curtain/partition wall or a bearing part of the structure, masonry infill significantly affects structural behaviour of the primary structure.

A theoretical-experimental analysis of beam behavior in structural masonry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
This study presents a theoretical-experimental evaluation of the behavior of reinforced masonry beams consisting of concrete blocks subjected to flexure and shear. Four beams were evaluated in the laboratory.

Can prisons move people into better jobs? A look at correctional vocational training programs and sectoral employment outcomes

open access: yesCriminology, EarlyView.
Abstract Three‐quarters of US prisons offer vocational training programs, which aim to place trainees in middle‐skills jobs in specific occupational sectors post‐release. These middle‐skills jobs may more effectively reduce recidivism than the jobs that normally characterize the labor market experience of the formerly incarcerated, yet whether ...

Low unit strength masonry: computational modelling approaches [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Masonry is characterized by the large variability of its components. Parameters like strength, bond and workmanship defects strongly influence the performance of the overall structure.

A New Model of Feeding Biomechanics Based on Tied‐Arch Principles

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
This new biomechanical model explains the major stress and strain patterns generated through the cranium during biting. The model proposes that the cranium resolves bite‐induced reaction forces through arcs of compressive stress that span the cranial structure between biting teeth and both jaw joints.

Mortars From Punic and Hellenistic–Roman Solunto: Materials, Formulations, and Technology

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study presents an archaeometric investigation of 18 hydraulic rendering and bedding mortars from Punic and Hellenistic–Roman Solunto (NW Sicily). The research aimed to characterize raw materials, reconstruct manufacturing sequences, and evaluate technological proficiency through mineralogical and petrochemical analyses.

Outbreak of poisoning by sodium hydrogen methylarsonate (MSMA)—an arsenic‐based herbicide—in horses in Brazil

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Arsenic poisoning in horses is rarely reported in the literature. However, arsenic compounds can be present in rodenticides, pesticides, and herbicides, representing a potential source of accidental exposure for horses. Objective To describe the epidemiological, clinical, and laboratory findings from a herd of 31 horses exposed to ...

From point clouds to geometry for detailed micro-modelling of masonry structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Over the last few decades significant efforts have been placed on the development of detailed numerical models to predict the mechanical behavior of historical masonry structures. However, an issue faced in the numerical modelling of historic and damaged
