Outsourcing Participatory Democracy: Critical Reflections on the Participatory Budgeting Experiences in Taiwan

open access: yesJournal of Deliberative Democracy, 2018
This article attempts to critically examine the experiences of participatory budgeting (PB) that have proliferated across Taiwan’s cities over the past three years. It is argued that PB in Taiwan remains an isolated initiative instead of an integral part

Theory of PbTiO3, BaTiO3, and SrTiO3 Surfaces

open access: yes, 1999
First-principles total-energy calculations are carried out for (001) surfaces of the cubic perovskite ATiO3 compounds PbTiO3, BaTiO3, and SrTiO3. Both AO-terminated and TiO2-terminated surfaces are considered, and fully-relaxed atomic configurations are ...

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Magnetic and Structural Properties of EuS-PbS Multilayers Grown on n-PbS (100) Substrates

open access: yesActa Physica Polonica A, 2002
Magnetic properties of semiconductor EuS(t)-PbS(d)-EuS(t) ferromagnetic trilayers (t=30÷300 A and d=7.5÷70 A) grown on n-type monocrystalline PbS (100) substrate were studied by SQUID magnetometry and ferromagnetic resonance technique yielding, in particular, the dependence of the ferromagnetic Curie temperature on the thickness of the EuS layer ...

Integrated genomic and proteomic profiling reveals insights into chemoradiation resistance in cervical cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A comprehensive genomic and proteomic analysis of cervical cancer revealed STK11 and STX3 as a potential biomarkers of chemoradiation resistance. Our study demonstrated EGFR as a therapeutic target, paving the way for precision strategies to overcome treatment failure and the DNA repair pathway as a critical mechanism of resistance.

The Influence of Support Basicity on the Adsorption of Lead on the (100) Surface of Alkaline Earth Metal Oxide Crystals

open access: yesCrystals
Supports used in heterogeneous metallic catalysts serve as a structural skeleton across which metallic nanoparticles are dispersed, but specific properties of the supports may also determine the behavior of these nanoparticles in catalytic processes. For

Behavior of Electrodeposited Cd and Pb Schottky Junctions on CH3-Terminated n-Si(111) Surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
n-Si/Cd and n-Si/Pb Schottky junctions have been prepared by electrodeposition of Cd or Pb from acidic aqueous solutions onto H-terminated and CH3-terminated n-type Si(111) surfaces.

YAP1::TFE3 mediates endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal plasticity in epithelioid hemangioendothelioma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The YAP1::TFE3 fusion protein drives endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EndMT) plasticity, resulting in the loss of endothelial characteristics and gain of mesenchymal‐like properties, including resistance to anoikis, increased migratory capacity, and loss of contact growth inhibition in endothelial cells.

Ferromagnetism and large negative magnetoresistance in Pb doped Bi-Sr-Co-O misfit-layer compound

open access: yes, 2000
Ferromagnetism and accompanying large negative magnetoresistance in Pb-substituted Bi-Sr-Co-O misfit-layer compound are investigated in detail. Recent structural analysis of (Bi,Pb)${}_2$Sr${}_{3}$Co${}_2$O${}_9$, which has been believed to be a Co ...
